Anyone have info on Branson Mo? DH was asking me to come up with a road trip for the summer. I was looking at our exchange possibilitie and Branson was one. Any input or ideas?

I've been there. It's a fun theme park. Very authentic to the area. Lot's of good shows. Good food for a theme park. When I was there, they had an amphitheater similiar to Fantasmic at WDW.

There is a message board devoted to Branson. 1branson.com

We went this past summer and the kids had a great time. Lots of things to do for the whole family.

Branson is a unique vacation. It is laid back. You can go to shows, go to Silver Dollar City, rent a boat/jet ski's and go on TableRock Lake.

We are usually found on the lake zooming around.:thumbsup2

Indian Point area is where Silver Dollar City is and we stay. That way we hop over to Branson West to go shopping instead of heading into Branson.

Oh and never, ever, travel west on 76 at 10am to get to SDC.
Ex. if you stay at the brand new Hilton in Branson Landing and you need to get to SDC, go the back way, leave early or late.
I sat 2+hrs on 76.

I worked there the summer after my freshman year in college (1998). I don't know know how much it has changed, but it was a fun, family friendly place. It was (maybe still is) owned by the folks who run Dollywood in Gatlinburg, TN. Definitely not Disney but still a lot of fun. I recommend it.

Just watched the Duggar family there on tv the other night.. Looked pretty interesting - especially the "Dixie Stampede"/dinner show..:thumbsup2

I visited Steal Your Dollar City last summer. And if you think Disney is expensive hold onto your wallets...

Branson is a very pretty area and Silver Dollar City is fun, but pricey and it's very hilly in there too, so make sure you wear really good walking shoes. They have a very cute kiddy ride area, good food and cute shops, especially the Christmas shop and the glass blowing demonstrations.

I love Silver Dollar City. My boyfriend and I have season passes and visit four weekends out of the year. We are going the first week in December for their Christmas festival. SDC has different festivals throughout the year so we try to go during our four favorite festivals.

Silver Dollar City has amusement park rides, lots of shops, live entertainment, and lots of food.

The two main roller coasters are by far the scariest roller coasters I have ever ridden on, much better then anything at Six Flags. SDC also has a couple of animatronic rides similar to something seen at Disney. They also have a kids section that has tons of rides suitable for youngsters.

The shops are unique in that an employee is usually showcasing their items. For example, you can watch a lady make lye soap, a glassblower make ornaments, a blacksmith work on metal work, and a broommaker make brooms.

SDC has lots of food options. They even have a refillable mug that you can bring back for any trip (not just the length of your stay ;) ).

That being said, we only do SDC one day during our weekend trips. There is plenty of time to see everything in one day so we spend the rest of our time seeing other sites in Branson.

I agree with the previous poster who said Branson is expensive. The hotels are very expensive compared to Disney. We have spend more money going to Branson compared to our Disney trips.

Ticket wise, the tickets are very expensive if you are just buying a one day ticket. If you buy a season pass and plan on visiting more then once, it is very worthwhile. Passholders get a discount on all food purchases. I think the food prices are a little high but deals can be found if a person is familiar with the area.

That being said, we still return over and over again. There is just something about SDC that makes it different from any other amusement park. Maybe it is the friendly employees or the family oriented atmosphere, we just love it. Of course I love Disney too but Branson is a lot closer for us to visit when we want to get a way for the weekend.

Where on earth do you stay? I got a really nice 2 bedroom, full kitchen villa for $180/night. Where can I get that at Disney? That was the highest rated resort in Branson--the Marriott.

OP, not sure how long you're planning on staying. But a season pass will cover 2 days. However, most resorts have special "buy one day get second day free tickets". So those are good if you only want to do a day or two.

Thanks for the information. DH wants to travel West and Branson is only a 20 hour car ride. I'd love to do all the way to California though! I'm going to look into renting an RV and what sights we can see on the way. We'd be able to exchange into Marriott's Horizons so our hotel there is covered.Off to do research!

I believe it. Celebration City was a flop.

We are TableRock people so we don't do much of the tourist stuff, expect for some shopping and the strip.

It does need a lift of some sort as far as the show Marquis's. The end by the Stampede is getting better with the addition of The Landing.

If you go, make sure you check out TableRock. Rent a jet ski and have some fun.:thumbsup2

We own a boat and 2 jet ski's so that is why we are always on the lake.

Tablerock Lake is just absolutely great and not to be missed. That is my PSA..:lmao:
