brand new florida venture for us this time!

Well this year will be our first trip without any children regardless of how old they are 30, 25 & 17 DSs, they always want to come with us, but not this year, so DH and I have planned a nice trip......
Manchester to Heathrow - Heathrow to Miami for 2 nights
Miami flying to Key West for 3 nights
Road trip up Gulf Coast staying in various (yet to be decided) destinations
Definate stop at St Petes and John Pass for at least 5 nights.
Last leg, a treat to us both over to Orlando for a final 4 night stay at hopefully Wilderness Lodge....
Any advise on either destinations or length of stay would be appreciated, anything I shouldnt miss out on or should definately give a miss.....DH really wants to stay in Everglades National Park.....

Sounds fairly similar to our trip this August except we are driving down through the Keys, rather than flying down to Key West.

It's all new territory to us, I'm afraid, so can't really provide any insight onto the best things to do/see. Will likely have more to add after August if any use.

cheers.....we will be travelling to london on 20th aug and returning 7th september.....
reason for flying to keys is only because being a road trip there is only one road in and out of keys so no alternative route, just our way of not doubling up and wanting to pick up car in key west.....
any advice very welcome....can give it where orlando is concerned but new territory for us...

ooh sounds like fun , i am in the same situation though planning a similar trip , no idea where to stop or for how long the planning and looking is fun xx
