Hi all - my husband and I just joined DVC on Sunday. I've been reading all the fine print and trying to understand all the rules of use. I have a couple of questions...

1) When did other members receive their email giving them rights to the DVC website? I have a club ID, but apparently you need an email from DVC before being able to access the site for point balances, etc.

2) I'm going to botch the name of it, but there's a "rule of four?" or something to that effect? I think that's the time period between when you MUST bank, use or lose your 2010 points and when you receive your 2011 points. My question is...during that period, are you able to reserve days in 2011 using banked points, or do you have to wait until your 2011 points kick in? I'm definitely fuzzy here and could use any guidance.

My brother recommended this site, and I look forward to learning all the tips and insights you have to share!:)

Congratulations on your purchase.

I assume you mean you purchased from Disney. Not sure when email will come but believe you won't get anything until after 10 day period from date of sale during which you still have the right to avoid the sale. For actual timing best to call your sales rep.

As to your other question which actually ends up being several:

1. You have until the end of the eighth month in your use year to bank any or all of your points into the next use year. When counting to eight include your use year month, e.g., for March use year you count March to get to eight and thus banking deadline date is October 31. If you fail to timely bank them you must use them by end of the existing use year.

2. Rule of four: this really relates only to non-DVC resorts when you trade out, such as to get a Disney hotel. You can book a stay in non-DVC resort that takes place in the last four months of your use year as long as you call to reserve before the end of the eighth month of your use year. What you cannot do is call during the last four months in your use year to reserve a room in a non-DVC resort for a time during the last four months of your use year. This does not apply to DVC reservations. You can call on the 363rd day of your use year to reserve the 364th day if you want (and if you can actually find a opening).

3. Reserving: you can always call to make a DVC reservation up to 11 months out at home DVC resort and 7 months out at others. Points you use and whether you need to bank depends on dates you will actually be at WDW not date you call to reserve. For example, assume a March use year and that you have March 2010 points and want to reserve your home resort for early September 2011. You can call to reserve in early Oct 2010 (11 months out). During that same call and before reserving you can bank those March 2010 points. You then reserve your Sep 2011 trip using those banked points and those coming available in March 2011 (which will be your "current" use year points for that trip). You could even, if necessary, borrow points from your March 2012 use year for that trip. You don't have to wait until March 2011, when the points become available for use, to make your call to reserve a room for Sep 2011.

Congratulations, and Welcome Home!

Definitely spend a lot of time on the boards. When my wife and I first joined, it provided many answers to our questions and helpful tips.

So funny you posted this today! I am a new member too but I am the opposite. I got my email with my site activation code but not my club ID yet!!! :confused3

I was told I should have everything by the 20th (I closed on the 9th). Not sure if that time frame helps you at all!

I don't know if it was the same with you, but my Club ID was on an 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper tucked into the big folder of DVC information. Take a look - it might be hiding!

Interesting that you got your activation code already. Hmmm.

Thanks very much for the help. I think I understand. It will just take me awhile to get into the swing of things!

I never got and activation code in the mail, I called MS and they gave it to me over the phone.

Yeah so this is what is odd, I haven't gotten anyting in the mail yet! The person at MS I spoke with was super confused. he said my points were even showing up yet. So I am just going to wait till the 20th and go from there. Hope you get all your info soon :)

We hadn't gotten any first time code or Club ID# yet either. To tell you the truth, we didn't know anything about a website until we got onto the DIS (we are Newbies too can you tell?). I decided to call our guide and he directed us to call Member Services which they were able to give us both the code and Club ID#, and a couple of hours later, we received an email from DVC with the same info.

Congratulations and Welcome Home!

You will find a lot of very nice people with a wealth of good information and advice on these boards. Good luck and enjoy your membership!

Beware addonitis!!! :scared1:

Same here. Just joined last wkend while at disney. Numbers were on a sheet of paper in folder, found it after I called and got them to log on.

:) OT: Marcotter, I just sent you a PM. I live in South MS, too.

We just joined DVC BLT last sat. after taking a walk thru tour of a studio & 1 bedroom rooms at a Disneys Doorway to Dreams showroom.
We have not received our email as of yet. We have the Club ID that was in our welcome packet but not the activation code that was supposed to come via email.
I'm going to try and call MS tomorrow to get the code because I'd like to book our vacation for the end of May.

Rule of Four

You cannot book and travel on The Disney Collection (excluding Disneyland® Resort Hotels in California), Concierge Collection and Adventurer Collection vacations within the last 4 months of your Use Year.

However, you can travel in the last 4 months of your Use Year as long as you've booked your stay more than 4 months before the end of your Use Year.
