Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but I want to know if anyone has encountered this issue before

I just bought last night 2 $100 Disney gift cards at Target. I used my red card to get advantage of the 5% discount.

The first card I was able to add to my account just fine. The second card, it gave me an error. I tried again, thinking I had typed the wrong numbers, same error. I then thought "maybe the cashier forgot to activate the card"
I checked the receipt and it was very clear that BOTH cards were activated. It was written on the receipt.

I called Disney card guest services, and they told me the card was FROZEN. I asked for more details, since that was a brand new Disney gift card, and the person could not tell me anything.
They recommended me to email disney gift card services and wait 5 business day . LOL. How is this good customer service? Why they can't fix the issue over the phone when you had just bought a gift card? They make it harder for us. Unbelievable.

Anyway, has anyone encountered this problem before with brand new gift cards bought at a reputable store?

Thanks

I haven't had this particular problem of being told a card is "Frozen" but I have had problems with gifts cards from Target. To the point I don't buy them there anymore. I buy them from Kroger now. Most of the gift cards I buy are behind customer service counter. Too much hacking going on. Bought my sister a Visa gift card from Target for $100 and it was used twice at a Home Depot in increments of $50. Target was no help. Took months for Visa to give my sister the money. I hope you can ger a quick resolution to this.

When you type the gift card number or pin incorrectly the card can freeze or better they put a hold on the card. It usually takes 24 hours after calling for the hold to be removed. Never been told to email....... so that is new. Could have also been done by someone else who has the card number but from what I have seen it would be hard to get that number from the actual card being all is under packaging and then the scratch off.

Yes. This has happened to a few of us. I froze one by typing the pin in wrong just once. I had to call a few times to get a competent rep. They should ask you where you bought it, say something like it should unlock in 48 hours if not email this address. Call back until you get something like that, don’t mention previous calls. There is nothing the rep can do to unfreeze it faster, people have reported it taking only 24 hours to unfreeze sometimes. I was too scared to try it before 48 hours.

The email address is useless. They won’t reply unless you are seriously screwed over then you might hear back in a couple weeks. This is extremely rare and in all recent cases cards we’ve had reported cards unlock within 2 days of the phone call. Don’t email at this point.

you would expect that Disney would have an easier way to fix this problem. How come do you want to encourage people to buy Disney gift cards and yet and make it harder to fix a potential problem? They have to improve this system 😢

They *should* improve this system, if they had to they would have already done it.

It's one of the things we caution about on the gc thread. Do not buy last minute and be extremely careful about typing in gc numbers and pins. I've typed the gc number wrong and been ok but when I had the pin wrong (the copy/paste from my Excel sheet deleted the 0 at the end) I was screwed a couple days before my trip last Dec.

Update:

Got a reply from Disney gift card guest services. They acknowledged that my card is frozen and offered a replacement card. I just got an egift card in my email.

I guess there is no way to unlock it, once it is "frozen", the gift card is gone for good

So either there is a difference between locked and frozen or Disney GC finally got their crap together.

My vote is Disney got their crap together because nobody has ever heard back from that email address. We will have to keep an eye on future reports!

(VERY glad you got your access to your Mouse Dough!)

See my other post, they replaced the the gift card that was actually working fine 😭

Update 2: the stupid CM DELETED the card that WAS ACTUALLY WORKING . I went to check my account and the card that was fine HAD NO FUNDS.

I can't deal with this anymore. I am emailing them again!
I'm confused as to how they even had the numbers of the working card. You had it saved on the gift card website?

Ditto. I was already forming my "Frozen themed gift cards have had multiple hacks reported for years" response in my head lol.
Me too! I remember, when I was at WDW a year ago in the BC Marketplace, there were "Frozen" themed gift cards, and never having seen that particular theme (as well as having a cat named after Elsa), I regretted not buying one. But when I mentioned it on these boards then, I was told about the problem then. Glad about my not buying one.
