We just transferred our Disney Cruise Line vacation from a "regular" vacation to a DVC vacation. I was surprised that they charged me $75.00 to move that vacation. Is it normal for any changes to any dvc vacation for you to be charged 75.00? I am more worried about your "normal" home resort reservations you make. Say for example I book for 11 months out but then a few months later need to change it - will I get charged 75.00 for every change - or is that just applicable for certain kinds of vacation?

Also - I did purchase travel insurance for this trip (especially being a cruise during hurricane season) but was notified that they would give a monetary value of the points (5.00 per point) if we needed to cancel. Is that the same policy if I were to book at a "home" resort?

Thanks in advance....

I may be wrong but since the cruise DCL is not DVC it is considered a separate entity so you have the $75 charge. When staying at a DVC resort changes are not charged, however reservations for DCL, DL, other WDW resorts that are not DVC all have the $75 charge. I'm sure if I have this wrong some other kind soul will correct me but I am pretty sure this is right.

There is a $75 fee when booking outside of the DVC resorts (and Interval International may be $95, haven't booked II, but I seem to remember reading that).

Yes, the travel insurance does not actually give you back your points but pays you a monetary value.

There is no fee when changing reservations within the DVC resort system, and if you cancel a trip to a DVC resort more than 31 days before arrival those points return to normal status within the current use year. Less than that, the points go into a holding account where they can only be used for vacatons booked at 60 days or less prior to arrival, and the points can not be banked into the following use year. If you cancel on day of arrival, the points are lost and considered "spent" for the entire reservation.

DL and the other WDW resorts do not have the $75 fee, just DCL.

The fee for DCL and II is $75. For CC and adventurer collection it's $95. DC outside DCL does not charge a fee directly. The insurance only returns about $5 per point last I heard.
