I'm going to be strapped in to braces pretty soon, and I was wondering what you can and cannot eat at DW. I'm pretty sure that you can slurp Jell-O or pudding through a straw, and eat cotton candy, but I'm not sure about other foods.

:teeth: princess:

well..when I had braces eons ago and we went ot WDW, I ate everything. No corn on the cob, but pretty much everything else.
No chewing gum, no taffy. I was extremely careful with eating.

Just don't eat sticky, or too chewy stuff.

Thanks lisajl, but I think that I am going to still be very careful! I don't want any brackets to come off or anything! :sunny:

N/P...I ate sandwiches, just tore them apart instead of biting into them. I also remember eating at Cinderellas castle and not having a problem with salad or anything.

Sorry, can't think of anything else.
But my son, 10, will be getting his braces next week and we are going to WDW in Dec. Thanks for reminding me how careful we will have to be!

Have a good time!

Lisa

Funny thing! We're going to be at DW in December, too.
We're going to be there from December 5 to the 28th.
When are you going to be there?:Pinkbounc

Wow! You are going to be there a long time. Good for you!
We will be there from Dec 18-23. Not too long, but we will sure have a good time.

We will staying at the FW Cabins. Where will you be?

Lisa

Bianca,
You can eat nearly everything except corn on the cob and really sticky stuff. And just by doing that you are being careful. The only brackets I ever lost came off because there wasn't enough cement behind them, and it had nothing to do with what I ate.
You'll probably have braces for a year or 2, do you really want to just eat jello and cotton candy the whole time? Trust me, I was in braces over 2 years and as long as you're careful you can eat anything. You can even safely chew sugar free gum.

Bah!

While I had braces I didn't really watch what I ate. To be honest after you get them in and after they get worked on your not going to want to eat certain foods, otherwise you'll be able to eat anything.

In fairness I did knock the brackets off a few times and I had to get them re-cemented (real pain) :( but otherwise just make sure to clean your teeth with all the little contraptions they give you so you don't get food stuck anywhere unsightly and you should be fine.

oops sry bout tha doubles i clicked twice impaitiontly lol and it made two sry bout that!!!

That's what I thought, speedyejl. I figured that brackets would come off if you ate the wrong foods. I'm just glad that I know beforehand not to eat certain things. And no, I don't want to eat Jell-O and cotton candy the whole time! Since you all have had braces, I was wondering how much it hurts to get them put on.
 princess:

Hey...my 10 year old son got them on today and had no pain.

That was until later this evening when he tried to eat, his gums are a little sore.

ive never had braces and i dont need them but I would watch out for things with bones like turkey legs.

Turkey legs will only be a problem if the outer skin is really tough, or if you decide to chew on the bone.
The pain when you get them on is based on how much your teeth move initially and your pain tolerance. I had a heat activated wire, so when it warmed up in the heat of my mouth it started pulling. I also got them put on in December, in NH. So if I went outside the wire would freeze, and then when I went inside a building it would heat up and pull again. THAT was painful. My stepsister on the other hand had no pain. But she's a hockey player and has massive pain tolerance, so that could have been the difference. Different wires too.

Yea theres no real pain,

Just after they get put in/ work on them (you'll go in for adjustments etc.) your mouth feels a little uncomfortable, it usually only lasts for a few hours though, unless you bend the wire (knock a bracket off) then you feel it until you get it fixed.

That makes me feel better knowing that it doesn't hurt immediatley after. I do think that I'm going to take Tylenol after I get back from getting them on!:sunny:

I never had any real pain with my braces, just some discomfort after getting them on. For the first few days, it was uncomfortable to eat crtain foods, and to drink out of straws. Everyone has a different pain tolerance though.

Bianca!
If I were you I wouldn't worry about that right now, I'd just start eating all the popcorn I could get!!!::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo

I'm already started on the popcorn thing, jasmine291!
But thanks anyway!
