My 2 1/2 year old granson has the most adorable mullet you'll ever see! The long part of it goes to the middle of his back and his mom keeps the top short enough to spike with some gel. He is so cute!

I can't imagine paying a kid to cut his hair. If they like it long, let them keep it long.

Dream on kids! I won't even pay more than $18 for my own haircut, let alone $500 for somebody else's. DH had shoulder length hair when we met. He's Greek so it was just flowing, dark and glossy. Girls would walk up behind him to reach out and touch his hair. So it doesn't bother me at all when DS23 grows his hair out.The only thing that gets DS to cut his hair is a girl.

Why was your husbands hair awful? I bet he doesn't want your son treated the way he was.

It was awful because it had no style. He had had it short and it just grew out, with no real shaping at all. His hair naturally is SUPER thick and has a wiry wave. It was more or less blunt cut at his shoulders and he wore side-swept bangs that were so wavy that they stuck straight out over his glasses. Because it was so thick the top ends stuck out nearly straight from the sides of his head (think Bozo), so he used to literally wet the top surface and mash it down several times a day. If it had been properly layered it probably would have looked fine, but he says that at the time he was adamant about never letting scissors touch it. The early 70's were a very unfortunate time to be a male with really wavy hair.

Nowadays he keeps it short and does NOT wear bangs of any kind, but he has to have it cut monthly or he begins to look like he has a pompadour. People often mistake him for Dan Marino.

DS' hair is a bit straighter thanks to my genetic input, but it's still REALLY thick and begins to get really poufy very quickly if it is blunt-cut.

DH' theory on social life is that a bad haircut magnifies any geek factor and ups the likelihood that girls won't give you the time of day. I don't think that he dislikes long hair so much as he just despairs of DS ever being style-conscious enough to manage attractive long hair.

My idea of good long hair on a boy with this sort of hair is the style that Dan Radcliffe had in Goblet of Fire. That was a decent cut.

I have to agree with this.


DS14 has shaggy hair, not long enough to put it in a pony tail but long enough to cover his ears, pretty much the style. I prefer him in shorter hair because we think he looks older and it's more clean cut, the girls in school however, like his long hair--guess who's opinion matters more .

My son is 8, going on 9 and a few years ago when he was in kindergarten he told me he wanted to grow his hair longer and no longer get "barber cuts" and I allowed this. I have all along kept it reasonable albeit shaggy and it is taken care of at salon every few months. My biggest gripe is I am responsible for it each morning, but it makes him feel good about himself so I really don't mind. We do however get a lot of rude comments about his "mop" of hair. We have also gotten a lot of compliments on it. It is "him" now and I do sometimes wish he wanted it cut short again, but I would never pay him to do it, geez!

I have never really understood the big deal over boys hair My older boys have had their hair all different ways over the years, short, highlighted, long...etc.

I have never given then a hard time over it and I have never considered paying them to change it.

WOW! That was some Beautiful hair!! As a cancer survivor that donated my Wigs ,I applaud him and his decision! How proud you must be!!!

By the way, he looks handsome either way, actually I like the shorter version even better

He is growing it again.

He always wore it back in a low ponytail. I always really liked it

Oh back ponytails are great! My DH had a long pony down to his waist for about 10 years. I always wear my hair like that. I meant that pic of him with two ponies on the sides...kinda scary..

I waited until my DS11 was 3 before I cut his hair. It was the most gorgeous wavy/curly blonde/highlighted hair I ever saw. It was almost down to his waist when you held it straight. I don't know what made me have it cut, but when I did every one of those beautiful curls went away and he looked like a little boy instead of my baby.

Right now my hair is the longest it has been in my entire life. I had to keep it short when I was in the Navy. But I have been out for almost 3 years and I don't have to get it cut anymore, so I don't. My hair is down past my shoulders, but down to my shoulderblades when straight. I wear it pulled back at work because it looks more professional. The best thing is that (living in a military town like we do) I don't have to worry about all the places at the mall trying to get me to sign up for overpriced stuff anymore (Thank you long hair and goatee!!). DS13 is growing his hair out because he wants to and he can. He was in private school and couldn't have hair past his collar. I think that it has something with wanting to be like me , but he could do worse IMHO. He takes good enough care of it now. It isn't to the point where he has to pull it back or keep it out of his eyes, but it looks much better than when it was short. The poor kid was blessed with super curly hair. The one in the family that I really feel bad for is DD2.5mos. Her hair is already down past her shoulders, and is really curly. Of course she gets her hair from both her mother and I.

I like it to look a certain way. He is very good at washing it and combing it and I just use the hair dryer on the bang area to keep it looking well kept H e could definetly walk out the door each day with it the way he brushes it, but I prefer to take the extra minute to style it a little better.

My Dad had long hair (and side burns down to his jaw) DH had/has (it's "medium" now) long hair. I tend to let DS hair get "surfer dude" long and get grief from everyone when I have it cut. If he wants to grow it out when he's older more power to him. If any payments happen it will more likely be Mama paying him to keep it long!
