Just for fun!

My ridiculously unscientific hypothesis based on observations of my own kids and nieces and nephews is...

1 Girls seem braver at a younger age on thrill-scary attractions (roller coasters, etc.)
2 Boys seem more able to handle the sensory scary attractions (haunted mansion, etc.) at an early age.

Does your experience support this theory?

(Edited to change the word "tactile" to "sensory" ....I realized I used the wrong word...of course something touching me would be rrrreeaalllly creepy!)

Well, my kids at least fit your theory! DD (now 8) will go on any ride where you're thrown around and hurled upside-down, but steers clear of anything "scary". She still holds on tightly during Pirates of the Caribbean, for example, and won't go on Haunted Mansion at all. DS (now 11) has never worried about "scary" but still won't go on upside-down coasters, and for a long time wouldn't go on coasters at all.

My DD3 is not scared of either type attration, while DS, who is now 11, was scared of the tactile scary attractions until this year. The results of this should be interesting. Posting this on the Community Board would get more responses. If you were interested you might be able to get a moderator to move it for you. :D

that fits my dd perfectly - quite happy to be dropped from a great height, or spun really fast, but whatever you do don't pretend to be a ghost or a pirate....

Here's the exception that proves the rule! My DD6 has no problem with atmosphericly "scary" rides- loves POTC, HM, etc., but will not go near anything fast, twirly, high, or jerky!

We are going back this November, and she informed me she will try to brave a few more rides than last trip- says she wants to try BTM, Splash Mtn, and Teacups. But we will see what she REALLY gets on when we are there!::yes::

I have 3 girls and 1 boy and they are all different! My oldest DD13 has never been scared of ANYTHING and my second DD11 is pretty much scared of EVERYTHING. My DS is 9 and is scared of thrill rides but has never been scared of HM, POC, or anything like that. My youngest DD6 is pretty fearless, just don't even mention the word spider around her LOL!!! None of my kids have ever been scared of the dark, loud noises, or fireworks (even my chicken.) We have been to WDW many times with them being all different ages. I have severe motion sickness so I don't do coasters, and DH does not really love them. I think it just depends on the kid.

At age 2 1/2, my son liked the Barnstormer, disliked Dumbo, and didn't care either way about POTC.
