Boys Birthday Party Centerpiece

We are putting together a small birthday party for my son with no particular theme set. I wanted to put together a few centerpieces that are not associated with a particular type of character/show.... any suggestions other then a candy centerpiece since we just had a candy themed party for my daughter.

Remind us, how old is he?????

Even if you don't want to do a specific 'character', something off TV or whatever...

I still think a general theme is fun.

When DS was little, he was kind of into construction equipment, so I got his big Tonka Truck, put it on a place-mat in the middle of the table... and then had colorful balloons tied onto it... with bright blue and construction yellow as the colors of everything.

It was really fun and festive and impressive.

Maybe you could get large, clear vases and fill them with little legos in a variety of colors, bouncy balls, marbles, toy soldiers, small plastic dinosaurs, etc

Either do one large vase on each table with a different toy in it, or several smaller ones in varying heights on each table.

Either just leave them as is, or stick lollipops (I know, candy--sorry), Chinese yo-yos, glow sticks or flags in them like "flowers"

He will be 5. I have some transformer things, but have looked around for more items and is not able to find them. Yes, I am able to order online, but want something just out of the box. We have done MANY themed parties in the past.

Thank you. I like both of those ideas. Might also get some type of water toy or such if we decide to have it during the day, and have a water balloon toss. It will tie in with the party.

You could also do plastic sand pails tipped on their sides with the contents "spilling" out and use little water pistols as the filler if you will play with water outside. Or sit them upright, fill with crushed ice and put fun soda bottles in them (like Jones Soda). You could do that in the bed of a Tonka truck too (like the PP suggested).

When my nephew turned 5 - his mom used Tonka trucks to hold some of the snacks - i.e. pretzels, chips etc. This was a very cute centerpiece idea - as others have already mentioned, and perfect for this age!!!

That would be cute. I saw a centerpiece at a floral shop near here for a banquet at a construction company and they used Tonka trucks as the "vase". Very clever.

I would do something where everyone can take a piece of it. Inflatable toys maybe?

Guess I'm old fashioned but I would probably do balloons w/enough for everyone to leave with one.

I still do balloons. I think it adds to a party, and makes it more fun.
