Is it okay for my son to wear his swim trunks and a rash guard in the parks? I'm guessing it's fine since it will look like shorts and a shirt, but I just want to be sure.

I don't know why it wouldn't be. Like you said, it looks like a shirt and shorts. Heaven knows I've seen plenty of adults wearing inappropriately skimpy outfits.....a little boy in swim trunks and a rash guard shouldn't be a big deal!

This topic came up not so long ago. Technically it is against the rules, but I'm sure people wear swimwear to Disney all the time. As long as it looks more like clothes than a swimsuit, and as long as you don't run into a CM who is a stickler for the rules, you will be fine.

I saw plenty of it on our trip. We were there during Tropical Storm Debbie though and people probably just figured they might as well put their children in something that is used to getting wet.

I don't think it would be a problem, but curious why he would want to wear this in the parks. It sounds uncomfortable to me. :confused3

The girls have used swimsuits in the splash pads IN the park with no problems. I think the no bathing suit rule is probably keep adults with thong swimsuits out of the parks... though I can't be sure.

I know for Kali my boys were probably wishing they had their suits on for the rest of the day- they were soaked!
Boys are lucky- most swimsuits look like athletic shorts these days (or maybe it's the other way around).

If I was a betting person, I would bet that the sun would plummet into the earth before they would say something to you about your DS in swim trunks and a rash guard.

Why would it be uncomfortable to wear a pair of shorts and a lightweight/quick-drying tshirt?

This will be our first summer trip and I specifically bought quick drying things to wear. We have never used any of the water features in the parks before, but I'm thinking with the heat it may be nice for the kids to cool off but they would be very uncomfortable walking around wet all day.

Thanks! He is perfectly comfortable in his bathing suit/tech shirt or rash guard and they dry so much faster than even his Under Armour shorts.

Yes, I wish my teen girls could wear a suit and a cover-up, but they are too old for that. :)

Thanks!

sometimes, DS gets chafing from his swim trunks (if he's wearing them and not getting wet). :confused3

DS and DH have told me that there would be major chafing and dangling issues from wearing swim trunks all day in the parks. Mesh underpants just aren't that comfy, they say!

This is good that they feel this way, as I am a big fan of proper clothing in the parks, no matter the age.

Hmmmm. I will have to ask about this! Certainly don't want to have those issues. :)

Okay, I can see that. I guess for some reason I was assuming underwear would be worn with the swim shorts. Basically using them as regular shorts but made out of a quick-drying fabric.

I am seriously considering wearing quick-dry swim shorts to AK so they'll dry after Kali.

DS13 is another one who would be unable to wear a swim suit all day long without getting a rash. But, he has very sensitive skin. What has worked well for him in the past is to either wear shorts made of a quick drying material or (when he was little) bringing a swimsuit and have him change just for the water play. Never had a problem.
I would think the rash guard shirt would work well.

For the girls, I recommend a swim dress. They are made out of the same material as a swimsuit, but are perfectly presentable dresses. The ones I'm thinking of do not have a bodice or briefs underneath, so you would still have to wear undies. The tops have the built-in bras for support and modesty. I bought two of them for myself and my daughter for our upcoming trip, specifically for KRR at AK. I plan on putting my son in his swim trunks that day as well (along with underwear for comfort). The swim dresses we bought were at athleta.

I see the good reasoning to letting your son wear suit and rash guard..there's nothing inappropriate as it looks like shorts and top. If it's a long day in park a suit may get uncomfortable..or chafing can be a problem.

I pack a change of clothes for DS in a gallon size ziplock bag and put in park bag for those times he gets wet and needs a change. But we go late Aug / early Sept and it's so hot then anything drys quickly!

My daughters and I always hit animal kingdom at opening and wear our bathing suits and flip flops. We try and ride Kali 4 or 5 times because it is slow and they let you go back on. We carry our clothes and shoes and change after for the rest of the day. Also, there are lockers for wet clothes.
