DH has asked me to post this poll because he thinks DS is too old to still have stuffed animals. This has been an ongoing debate with him for a long time, however, I don't see it as an issue, I think DS will eventually grow out of the stuffed animal stage on his own. He will 10 in March and he still loves his stuffies! So tell me about your boys, how old are they and do they still love their stuffed animals?

I have a cuddly son. He has always loved stuffed animals and we let him have as many as he wanted. He has kept all his favorite stuffed toys as I think they carry good memories for him. Given his type of personality, we never saw a problem with it. Our older son was a soft toy lover when he was really small but he outgrew it at an earlier age than younger son did. I think it is ok to let their personalities dictate... :thumbsup2

I answered on behalf of my 7-year-old nephew who got a husky from Build-A-Bear at Christmas.

It's refreshing. He and his brothers are always rough-housing, testing the limits of breakage on toys and other household items, and generally just being boys...and this is just a nice break from all that.

I checked "other" because I have 3 girls, but I don't think your son is too old for stuffed animals. Tell your hubby that in a few years he'll WISH this was the problem of the day.

My 13 year old DS still has a stuffed dog that sits at the end of his bed that he has had since he was a baby. I wouldn't want him hauling it around to the stores, etc, but playing with them at home is fine.

Our twins have always loved playing with their beanie babies but while DD was rocking them, putting them to bed, wrapping them in blankets, etc. DS would be playing smash-um, crash-up, Power Rangers with them.

my son is 8 and I don't see him parting anytime soon with his stuffed animals! My DD never really cared for them and the kids pop pop loved to buy them...so when DS came along it was great because he would cover his bed with them. When he could he would load up his crib!
No he has them in a large bucket next to his bed! With a few favorites in the bed.
He loves build a bear and the best birthday I remember was last year. He wanted a build a bear party! But he knew the kids would laugh or not want to come...so we went as a family. Told the girl it was his birthday! She was fantastic! Treated him just like it was a party! It was so much fun watching him make his dog sparky and then getting him clothes and dressing him! One of my favorite birthday memories!

my son 5 soon 6 plays with his daily and even sleeps with a different one each night,,,now my dd is 9 and would rather play with hers than a 100.00 american doll she got for christmas this year :confused3 my kids get one every time we go to disney,,,i have stopped buying them for easter and holidays as they have to many,,,let him play with them they grow up to fast these days :thumbsup2

I think stuffed animals give boys a socially acceptable way of expressing their softer side. My DS19 has outgrown the stuffed animals now. But he loved Beanie Babies and stuffed dogs well into his 12th year. In fact, he still has Max, his brown & white stuffed doggie--he got rid of all the other toys, but can't let go of that one :goodvibes DS10 still sleeps with his bears. And DD12 has so many animals in her bed she's about ready to sleep on the floor :teeth:

Show your husband this thread. :teeth: My 10 yr. old son likes his stuffed animals, he has a Pikachu and an Ewok on his bed. I don't have a problem with it, they bring him comfort.

My oldest was never big on stuffed animals, even though I bought them for him. DD has so many stuffed animals, she absolutely loves them and even has names for them.

My DH is 27 and still has some from his childhood in our closet. But shhh no one is supposed to know.

Ooh, good answer! :rotfl:

Tell DH - Don't be in such a hurry for them to grow up. And when he does start losing interest in them, don't be in such a hurry to get rid of them. Some stuffed animals are more special than others and should be kept. What would the world be if Christopher Robin's mother had given Winnie the Pooh to Goodwill??? :teeth:

When he is ready to let go of the stuffies he will let you know.....
I think it is perfectly fine, gives them a chance to show a softer side rather than always having to be mini-macho men.

My DS is almost 13 and still has a ton of stuffies in his room. He loves going to Build a Bear. We think it is okay........

That's for sure. DS17 had one really special stuffed animal that happened to be Winnie the Pooh. We will never get rid of Winnie - he lives in a drawer in his dresser (When the guys come over, it's not cool to have Winnie out!). Winnie went on vacation with us and he even took him to sleepovers.

my DS is 10, you can't see him in his bed for his stuffed toys. mainly disney ones, he HAS to get a new one each time we go. He's not unusual amongst his friends either

My 9 year old son has quite a few stuffed animals and although he doesn't "play" with them, he doesn't want to part with them.

My 7 year old son has a few as well. He isn't quite as attached to his as his brother, but he still wouldn't think of parting with them either.

My oldest(10 yrs old) has never been a stuffed animal fan.He did enjoy making a dog at Build a Bear workshop but never did much with it.My DS8 plays with his and usually sleeps with a stuffed animal. They both also collect Disney stuffed characters-DS10 Mickeys and DS8 Goofys.DS10 sets his on his dresser while DS8 actually plays with his.I think it is more about personality than age with my boys.

Kids grow up WAY too fast these days anyways... There's nothing wrong with a boy having stuffed animals.

I remember when I was in elementary school in the 80's, we used to have Teddy Bear parades in school until the 4th grade. One day out of the year everyone , girl and boys alike, were required to bring in there fave stuffed animal , and we would have a parade around the school with them. :cloud9:
I didn't hear any parents or boys complaining. ;)

My almost 14 year old son's girlfriend bought him a stuffed animal for Valentine's Day. Obviously she didn't think he was too old. ;)
He also BEGGED me to buy him a stuffed sorcerer Mickey while we were at WDW. It now sits on his bed with his babyhood teddy bear and a beanie baby shark. :teeth:
