One of the best, if not the best, television shows of all time called The Wire was never nominated for a major award. The majority of the cast was black. And, the showrunners were told that they needed to add more white people to the show because they didn't want to lose viewers. This show is on the top list of every "Best TV Shows Ever" list. Incredible show, ahead of its time, full of racially diverse characters. Snubbed from all major awards. This is a real issue.

And yet this "Best Show of All Time" never won an Image Award. Never.

The question is, what can we do to encourage studios to make the bet? Until they're ready to make the bet, things won't really change.

It's pretty simple. You vote with your dollars. If you want to see movie studios produce more movies that feature more non-Caucasian actors & actresses, then you need to go to a movie theater and pay to see those movies that are currently being released which do have more non-Caucasian actors & actresses.

The major movie studios are for-profit enterprises.

Well, then, obviously there is going to be a race requirement. Unless the receptionist can pull off "mixed race", one of the parents would have to be the same race.

I mean, that's no different than a character needing to be a "Russian Spy". You aren't going to cast someone who is Japanese, right? There's got to be at least some common sense.

I can see a problem where the background genetic/adoption family makeup issues might be more interesting than some of the movies that get made.

2. It plans on doubling its voting members by the year 2020, especially women/minorities.
