<who was is utter shock at the size of this list>

Our family vacations in Fla every year, all but last year, that is. But Jake and I talked to our mom and requested we not go to disney. True one family wont make that much of a difference but its something. But a family of 4 sure spends the money when you do 5 days at the disney parks. So add that with no more disney movie tickets, yea even Pirates, and no more disney store, or buying movies.

And yes lets not forget the tv station abc. Funny thing to lol our family was chosen to participate in the Neilsen ratings. Guess who is getting black balled?

Its pretty obvious Michael Eisner is not in control. And Im not even sure Roy is on the board but if he is, he should be ashamed. I know I would be.

I am a HUGE Disney fan and have enjoyed playing VMK for the past few years and have many wonderful memories, but I won't boycott Disney because they are closing VMK (after all, my love of Disney came long before VMK). I did buy pin sets and go to the parks for the quests, but that was not only because they were VMK items...after all that is not what we were paying for - they were just added bonuses. Bob Iger has not ruined the company. After all, Iger was the one who said let them play Pirates free before POTC Online was released! Read the book Disneywar because it will teach you a lot about Disney (the good and the bad). Eisner was the one who kind of forced out Roy Disney a few years back. I have met Roy Disney and can say he is a very, very nice man who cares a lot about Disney and the parks, but I would highly doubt that he knows much about VMK as it is only a very, very, very small part of a very, very, very large company! In fact, most of the WDW cast members know nothing of VMK.

Like I said before, I am extremely saddened that VMK is closing, but like lots of other people said...we knew it would happen one day. I have decided that I am going to make the most of my last few weeks and try to make them as normal as possible and get as many pictures as I can so I can forever remember VMK.

Cheshire Figment made a great list of Disney owned things, but that is probably only half of the list. Here are some more things that are Disney owned that those of you who choose to boycott Disney will need to add to your list (there are a few duplicates from the list above) and keep in mind there are many, many more TV channels owned by Disney than are listed here:

Don't let VMK closing ruin Disney for you. Don't let it ruin your last few weeks with VMK either because they will go by fast.

I understand the sentiment, I do. And I do plan on boycotting all of Disney's online games and such, so I'm with you there. I just can't give everything Disney up. Be especially hard for me because I will be in WDW on the 21st and if I were to boycott Disney starting that day, I'd need a new hotel to stay at and new itinerary plans for the next day.

As for the discussion of previous boycotts, I hope everyone is aware there's a difference between a faith and a body that speaks for it, and that strong statements about any religion can, in particular, hurt people who practice that faith. JMO. :wizard:

Anyhow, I was planning on dropping a nice chunk of change on sculptures and art this trip; not so much now. I'm planning on keeping the buying to a minimum, I'm so upset. They may still get some of my money, but they'll be missing out on quite a bit.

My understanding is Roy mostly has a figurehead position since he gave up the SaveDisney fight. And as I said last night, those of us who were itching to chuck Eisner from the company were in for a nasty surprise with Iger. From everything I've seen, he's been more about the bottom line than I can ever remember in my 25 years of Disney history.

I'm afraid that won't work for me.

I've been a Disney fan long before VMK started, and I'll continue to be a Disney fan long after. I own DVC, like to visit the parks, and have always collected the movies.

VMK will always be special to me, but it alone would not make me want to boycott Disney's products and services. Their online services don't thrill me, but the rest of the company as a whole, does.

I ditto BriarRosie. I've also been a disney fan since my first trip in '76 (remember the bicentenial parade?) and am now a DVC member taking usually 2 trips a year to the House of Mouse.

I'm not sure what Disney is thinking in closing VMK. Maybe it was approaching "critical mass", where given the growth and popularity it would have taken a huge investment to keep it going and they decided to pull the plug (I don't buy the 50th celebration reason they give). But it was fun, I enjoyed it a lot and loved being able to tie visits to the park to VMK. Even spent tons of cash on the DVD's and pins just to get the dang collections.

But the closing of VMK is not going to change my attitude towards Disney. What it does do is change my attitude towards "virtual worlds" in general. Not sure I'll want to get involved in one again when they can so easily be turned "off".

I just don't understand boycotting Disney.
We should be saying "Thank You Disney for giving us a FREE and fun game to play for almost three years". Ppl have said it cost them alot. That was their choice to spend money. I never spent any money for the game. I went to WDW and Disneyland because I wanted to and vmk gift cards,(quest), were an added bonus. How can you be so upset with a company because they gave you a gift and decided to discontinue it? We don't know their plans for the furture.
I will miss vmk and my friends but I understand nothing stays forever.

I am not with the boycott of disney things, the reason i play is because i love all things disney. However, looking at some disney stuff at the moment is making me ill:guilty:

I think your points are valid and realistic. To me, VMK isn't creating much revenue because Disney has made them that way. Disney sort of pigeon-holed the game and then one day said, "Gee, you're not making us money, so you're getting the boot." With the size of Disney corp., surely somebody somewhere could have invested just the slightest amount of time and energy on behalf of the VMK Team.

Exactly. There is so much they could do to improve profits and keep VMK free. But anytime they were making anything off of VMK, they pulled it. Just like the kiosks in the parks and the park quests. Just like the DMR stuff.

And yes, some people did make changes in their buying habits just for VMK.
I did buy two complete sets of pins and had been thinking about buying some more. Not now.
I also bought movies for the DMR points. While I eventually would have bought what I did, they would have been bought used instead of new. Now almost all will be bought used as was before.

I will, however, not be playing any more of their online games. They just hold no interest for me.

VMK really is just a drop in the bucket for Disney. But I still think that the higher ups should be made aware of VMK and of us.
