Boy Scout Fundraiser

Well, it's that time of year. Usually, the scouts greet me outside the grocery, where I just give them a donation. This year a cute little scout comes to my door, so I order a tin of caramel popcorn from him. So, this morning he delivers the popcorn, which comes in a tin about 1/2 gallon size. Inside the tin is a aluminum pouch which contains the popcorn. I open the pouch, pour it into the tin, and it only fills about 1/3 of the tin, or less. Why do they do this? Now DH is going to think that I sat around all morning eating 2/3 of a can of caramel corn. Not that I haven't done something so indulgent before, but this morning, I really didn't. Maybe I should hide it.

Next year I'm going to give just give them the $10.00 and tell them to keep the popcorn.

My son is an Eagle Scout - and yes, the popcorn is pricey, but it's sooooo good! Plus - over 70% of the cost stays in the Scouting program. My son personally gets over 30% commission deposited into his Scout Troop fund. He has paid for 2 National Jamborees, and one trip to Philmont all on his own, with much of the $$$$ coming from selling popcorn.

Debbie.. you're wonderful! Thanks for supporting the Boys Scout! My son and his other(Bear) cub scout friend will be selling popcorns later today. They'll be nearby Blockbuster until 9pm! That's kind of late... but hopefully their selling will be a successful one!

Our pack sells candy bars too ($1.00). We are doing that and taking popcorn orders until close to the end of the month. This is my son's first year as a Tiger Cub and I'm a little dissapointed in our Den Leader (s). They have met twice since September and don't plan on meeting again until the end of the month. The first time they met the kids ran around and did nothing. The second time they colored his dad says (he takes him). I thought they were supposed to do projects, learn things, learn how to earn beads, etc. I'm just not really sure he is getting much out it

It was like that too last year with my son. He was a Wolf. They didn't do too much.. not much meeting. And if there is.. most of the time the kids were just horsing around. Well... that den leader is no longer a den leader. My son is now with the active den leader... so my son will now get to do lots of fun educational things!

Well, I have eaten some, and now the tin REALLY looks empty. Thank you for letting me know that so much of it does go back to the scouts. DH was a scout, and we can't pass one by without at least giving a donation. Besides, I'm a sucker for a uniform.

DS is a Bear and hasn't received anything about selling popcorn. He has been in cub scouts for almost 2 months. DH takes him to his den meetings and each time DH has come home and told me that his den leader is never there. It's always the assistant den leader. Apparently at one den meeting the assistant den leader made a comment that the leader wouldn't be showing up cause she works 3rd shift and is sleeping.
I guess the assistant den leader works 3rd shift also {so does DH} but he managed to make it. So far he has been the only one to make it, I have never seen his den leader, not even at the pack meetings.

What I want to know is why even say you'll be a den leader, when your not even going to show up.

Well... I guess the den leader is not a good role model for these children. He has a commitment to make for these children. He knew what kinds of meeting and when the meetings are, he should have not volunteered. My son started selling wreath. The scouts are selling popcorns too.

So... we got back from selling popcorns... and they did pretty well. It seems like they enjoyed selling them. I think they want to do it again.. Some didn't want to buy any.. but they were generous enough to give some money anyways... The boys really appreciated that.

My "Wolf" scout has been selling up a storm. My husband is Cub Master and has been taking him to the show and sells. They are usually the only ones that show up and boy has my scout benefitted! We are hoping to earn enough for summer camp this year.

We have found that most people find it hard to say no to the little guys. If you have a table with Tigers and Wolf's and a table with Webelos the little ones always have better sales.

We always buy it too. I love the chocolate covered caramel. Yum. But I'm glad it doesn't come with much to the tin, because I'm sure the calories are deadly.

BTW, my son has his Eagle Court of Honor next Sunday. I'm so excited and proud.

My son tried scouting this summer. I knew immediately it wasn't his thing. He wanted to do the active stuff.........camping, and such........and what they did was too much like school. Somehow he got in an all-Spanish speaking den, I guess because of our last name, but he's got language issues and though dh and I speak some Spanish at home, we speak more English, and DS has never learned it. We also paid for the magazine, and I guess because we moved, he never got it. We had a forwarding order, but perhaps the first issue came after it expired. All in all, a wasted 20 bucks. Now, if I'd spent that 20 bucks on popcorn, I'd be happily munching instead.................................

DH is the Popcorn leader for DS pack this year so I get to work in a room next to alot of Chocolate Covered Popcorn Mix it half & half with the carmel corn!!And the Unbelievable Butter Mirco Popcorn is good too!

DS's pack sold about $700 worth today at a Craft sale.

My DD's GS troop is already talking about cookie sales. Didn't it just end from last year?

We did order some Boy Scout popcorn this year for the first time but haven't gotten it yet.

I've seen a few say it helps pay for camp. I haven't heard anything about this, only about the prizes you can win. Do all scouts have an opportunity to help it pay for their camp?
