Police: Boy Found With Cocaine At Preschool
Authorities Seek 4-Year-Old's Parents

INDIANAPOLIS -- Police Monday were looking for the parents of a 4-year-old boy who allegedly had bags of crack cocaine at his preschool class.

Police Seek Boy's Parents

The boy apparently had the cocaine in his backpack Monday at his preschool in the Family Development Services Inc. building (pictured, left), located in the 3600 block of North Meridian Street, police said.

"He took it out and showed the other students this particular substance, and was describing it as flour," Indianapolis police Sgt. Roger Tuchek said.

A teacher saw the substance and called police. Officers took the drugs and then placed the boy and two of his siblings in protective custody, police said. Tuchek said child welfare workers were investigating allegations of child abuse against the parents, Kenneth Lee Green, 24, and 23-year-old Andrea D. Jackson.

Officers searched the boy's Indianapolis home and found a small amount of marijuana inside, police said. The boy's parents were not there.

Police said they believe the parents knew around noon that they were wanted. As of 5 p.m., they hadn't come forward, RTV6's Jack Rinehart reported.

Jackson was wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court, court records showed. Green had past convictions for carrying a firearm without a license, resisting law enforcement and marijuana possession.

"This could have killed these kids," Tuchek said, adding that it was the second-most he'd ever seen on one person at one time. "A lot of kids were put at risk."

A police officer said he believed the cocaine was worth more than $6,000, Rinehart reported.

Other parents who picked up their children at the Head Start class Monday were startled by the police presence.

"This is a real good school, so something like this is very unusual," said David Lewis, 36. "I'm thinking the child just picked up the wrong backpack and the parents didn't notice."

Why does this not surprise me in the least.......

OMG  . I can't imagine how scary that must have been for all the parents involved. I know one time at DD's daycare one parent had put some medicine in their child's diaper bag rather than give it to the teacher. One of the children somehow got into the bag and opened the medicine. Luckily a teacher was right there and prevented any of the children from eating it. I know that the parent was read the riot act and a notice went out about registering medicine. Something like this however is almost beyond belief.

have they found the parents yet? I know they were looking for them but no sign. The two kids are in protective custody.

They haven't found the parents yet.

What were those so-called parents thinking?

In our area, a 96-year-old woman was arrested recently b/c she was sitting in her wheelchair on a large stash of crack.

I hope they find those parents fast and put them away for a long time!

Those kids will be way better off without parents like that! It's so sad, that kid probably didn't know any better, thinking that's just an everyday thing around his house!
