Feb, 11 of this year my 16 yr old DD became the youngest Vermont Golden Glove champ in her weight class. I cried, I really wanted her to be a dancer LOL
My daughter wanted to do something different she saw a show on TV about boxing and decided she would like to try it.
We took her to a local boxing club and she just took off. She took to boxing like a fish to water. It only took a few weeks for the club coaches to notice she had talent. Right now we have an olympic coach talking to her about joining his gym. I would be happy with that because his club right now has the best woman boxer in the country and Canada so Star would be with more woman. My daughter has had several news stories written about her in the last few months. Yes proud Mommy and Daddy moments LOL
My DD will tell you and I have to agree that boxing is as much a phyical sport as it is a mine sport. It takes great mind power to fight and do it right. Star is in great shape and eats only what her body needs, no soda, junk food very little meat while she is in training When not fighting (she is taking some time off right now) she eats like all the other kids.
If you son wants to look into it most small boxing clubs have open nights where kids and adults just walk in off the street and watch and learn. The new club that wants my DD to join is not like that. They have a very long wait list but since my DD is already a boxer they will not let her wait. Besides the owner/coach is trying to recruit her to his gym.
Good luck. if you have anymore questions I can have my DD e-mail you.
PS. My DD has a tee shirt I just love. it says
"Fight Like Girl"
I laught at the guys who look at that tee shirt and think cat fight because I know in my heart Star could lay most of those guys out. Its also funny because my DD is very very beauitful. MODEL beauitful and guys just cant believe she is a boxer LOL
