I received a call a few minutes ago that my cousin David (who has been battling cancer for a few years) has been admitted to Yale. Apparently, it has spread quite badly and they aren't even moving him to Hospice care at this point. My heart is breaking for him and his family. He is only 42 years old and has 4 young sons under the age of 8. They are not very optimistic that he will pull through. It is just so sad.

Sending hugs and prayers :grouphug: How very sad.

For those of us that booked this cruise before December 2008, we were charged a fuel supplement charge. The date for determining if we get a refund of OBC or not was March 18, and it doesn't look like we did? So we're just out that money right? I was hoping for OBC! Oh well!

From DCL website (searched "fuel"):

Disney Cruise Line Eliminates Fuel Surcharge for New Bookings
CELEBRATION, Fla., (December 1, 2008) – Disney Cruise Line announced today that the company is eliminating fuel surcharges for all new bookings, effective today. The decision comes as a result of decreasing fuel price trends within the marketplace.

For cruises that have already been booked, the following guidelines have been established for the refund of fuel supplements paid:

If the closing price on the NYMEX (New York Mercantile Exchange) of West Texas Intermediate fuel is below $70 a barrel two weeks prior to the beginning of the calendar quarter (dates specified below), the company will refund fuel surcharges paid in the form of an onboard credit.

The determination of which quarter a cruise is in will be based solely on the sailing date. The entire cruise will be considered to be part of the quarter that the sailing date originates in.

Fuel Price Determination Date Quarter of Possible Fuel Surcharge Refund
June 17, 2009 Third Quarter 2009
September 17, 2009 Fourth Quarter 2009
December 18, 2009 First Quarter 2010
March 18, 2010 Second Quarter 2010
June 17, 2010 Third Quarter 2010
September 17, 2010 Fourth Quarter 2010

To see if you are eligible for the onboard credit, go to My Disney Cruise on or after the determination date. Retrieve your reservation and view the Invoice Information under Reservation Details.
The elimination of the fuel surcharge for new bookings applies to sail dates through the end of 2010. The company will continue to closely monitor fuel prices. Reinstatement of a fuel surcharge may be necessary in the future.

I went to my reservation the other night and didn't see any upgrade offer. It did say that I couldn't modify my reservation. Is that because I used a TA?

Kristi

I use a very good TA based out of Jacksonville, FL to book all of my travel. They do specialize in Disney but can book anything. They have changed my reservation for this trip and got me a very good upgrade. They have told me (not sure if it is true) that Disney contacts them first when they are ready for upgrades. I know I wanted a type of room that was not available an they checked each week for that opening and ended up getting me much better than I expected. You might call the TA and if they cannot do anything send me a PM and I will give you the information on the TA I use.

This will be my first cruise that I've booked a couple of treatments at the spa, and I have a question I'm hoping someone has an answer for :flower3:

I think I read somewhere that you can use the rainforest room free on the day you have a treatment booked :confused3 If this is true, can you use it before your treatment...or just after??? I'm hoping I can use it before!

Thanks!

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Natalie. I am 26 years old, single, and a native New Yorker. I am a teacher who has a Masters degree and I am looking for people to hang out with. My main interests are theater, writing, reading, and teaching. I would love to find someone to go to the shows with, walk a mile around the ship, take aerobics class, and lay out by the pool. I look forward to meeting everyone!! Thanks!
Natalie:goodvibes

Hi Natalie - I am in your age bracket. I will definitely need someone to take fitness classes with too! Make sure you come to the meet & greet :goodvibes

Hi everyone. I just wanted to pop on to say that my Grandmother passed away last night after a very quick but peaceful few days in hospice care. Her family was around her, in her home.

Thanks you for all your prayers, well wishes and caring messages. It means a lot to me to be able to share this difficult situation with you.

I am so sorry Lauren. God bless your grandmother.

Awww Dishy, this is such a hard thing to go through. Big hugs for you and prayers for him & his family.

Some printers can adjust for thicker paper ... does yours?

Good thinking. Will see if I can adjust.

Don't let people worry you.

We were on the Wonder in February for the first time ever, and again in September for a bounceback. I wouldn't choose to do it again, just because I don't like short cruises. There was nothing wrong with the ship or the CMs. The problem was with the guests, especially on the 3 night cruise. They were lost, driving themselves crazy because they were afraid that they might miss something, and thought rules applied to everyone except them. Seriously--kid in stroller in Cove Cafe. Yup, inside. Obnoxious drunken man behind us in theater being loud and rude (my friend finally spoke to him in his own language and he shut up for a while). 6 year old in Quiet Cove pool. No, I'm not mistaken and he was not a small 18 year old. Mommy suggested that he swim there because it was so much less crowded than "that other pool."

Sorry, but I've never seen this level of rudeness or blatant disregard of rules on the Magic.

:headache: Sounds awful!

Kathe--You can use it ALL day long. I usually go before, after and sometimes, later that night. Any other time, it is a per day charge.

Enjoy

Dishy...You cousin, his family, and yours will be in my prayers.

Mrs. Gumdrop...Your grandmother's passing with loving family and hospice care is what I want for myself. Your family will remain in my thoughts and prayers. Now is the time to treasure all your grandmother added to your lives. God bless you.

This was not my experience on my cruise in October. I happened to book a treatment that did include all day access and when i asked about coming back they said they did not do that anymore. I had to point out that my treatment specifically stated all day access and they had to find the sheet with the info - they seemed surprised - and I did get my access sticker to come back. So I would ask at the spa when you get on. Maybe the people at the front desk did not know. Not sure - if not I will probably pay for a day pass that day since I am already up there.

I am not saying that they are or are not doing this - just relaying my expierence.

Our prayers are with you and your families. Many of us knoww what you are going through. Faith will help you through this difficult time.

How this for a quencadence....
The last Disney Cruise we went on was in 2005 and we booked a Navigator Veranda room and our travel agent selected room 7626 for us.

This cruise we booked a cat 11 with no room selection because it was an inside room. Disney upgraded us to Cat 7 and assigned us room 7626.

What are the chances of getting the exact same room with all of them to choose from...:rotfl:

And we had chosen and booked 7626 for this cruise. Our upgrade came about 3 weeks ago, and I guess they didn't re-sell 7626. How great that a fellow DIS'er got to follow in the "upgrade trail":thumbsup2. No, you can't have our current Cat. 4:laughing:

Thanks for sharing your experience Krisann. I'd rather believe I will have access all day, but it's good to know that may not be the case!

Which made me start thinking about the name tags. I was planning on putting each person's real name & the user name of the person with which they are associated. Perhaps a system so you know who is a DISer and who is a come-with?

Here's what I had for everyone, I think the white over white might be a little harder to read from a respectable distance:

Here I changed the user name to gold and think it might be a little easier to distinguish between the 2 names:

Non-DISer: Since you can't read the red as easily, you then don't have to remember anything they posted, facts about them....

:scratchin: What if the non-DISers just have a name on the tag but not the DISer's handle? :confused3

I started printing out door signs last night......need opinions/thoughts on this....

to save on magnetic stuff, was thinking of using clear shelf liner (what my family calls Contact paper) to cover it--will it make the sign stiffer? In Jan my signs started curling. (does that make ANY sense???? :confused3).

The way I make my signs is to print them on paper or card stock, cover with clear Contact paper, attach craft magnets to the corners on the back and pack them for the trip. It has worked fine and many magnets have made repeat appearances. This time I am trying another idea also. I printed out some of the logos and designs shared on the Thread and put magnets in the corners of a plastic page protector. I cut off the white part that has the holes to put the page protector in a binder. I plan to put that plastic "sleeve" on the door and change the papers every so often.

Thank you to everyone for all of you good thoughts and prayers for my cousin. I was planning to go up to Yale tonight to visit him, but when my brother called him, his wife and 4 little boys were there with him. I am hoping to see him tomorrow or Sunday, but I don't want to take away from his last hours with his babies. I just can't believe this is really happening to such a great man, husband and father.

---Ironic! We are heading out to Lititz this weekend, as Greco's is opening their store (for the season) on Saturday. They are on Broad Street, across from Wilbur Chocolate, in the back/left side of the parking lot. Their Ephrata store will be opening in 3 weeks.

Make sure you stop by Tony Luke's (cheesesteaks) (www.TonyLukes.com), East Oregon Avenue ... near I-95 & I-76 ... minutes from Penns Landing.
I think Terry is supposed to join me in "judging" the Cougars, since we overlook Quiet Cove. I'm making plenty of score cards with "10" on them. Feel free to join us! pirate:
You not only have to be the one to say it....but you have seemed to have recruited Terry as your accomplice :rotfl: and I hear little to no protest from him :cool1: AHEM ....Reminder....cougars will have score cards too !

Too funny Steve n Donna, its like we are trading places for the weekend :rotfl:.... get some wilbur buds
We are meeting friends at Jim's steaks on south street for dinner Sat...but I will keep that other "cheesesteak" name in mind for another time.

Dishy.....so sorrry for your sad news:hug::hug::hug: hugs and prayers.

Nighty night all!
