Bound for Barcelona - April 10, 2010 EB TA - Part 4

Lori1035 is from LA.

I spent 45 minutes stirring a roux to achieve that caramel-colored peanut butter consistency and NOT burn it, but, man, that's a lot of work. Makes you appreciate a good gumbo. Congrats on expanding your culinary repertoire :thumbsup2

Yes, the roux can be a pain to get perfect. Unbelievably, a lot of folks around here use those little jars of pre-made roux. Cuts down on a lot of time. :guilty:

Next, try to master the jambalaya. It's tough to get the rice just right. BTW, my town is known as the jambalaya capital of the world. None of that red stuff in our jambalaya, though. That's just in New Orleans.

Erin & Anyone else who plans to jog on the deck - PLEASE be careful!!! On our last cruise there were some bumpy days and a young woman was running on the deck...she slipped and broke her collarbone! It was terrible b/c the cruise was her honeymoon :( Anyhow, please be careful & watch your step onboard!

We are arriving Friday as well, but staying at the All Star Sports Resort. Guess that makes us neighbours! :goodvibes

We are also taking the DCL bus on Saturday. I do not have any papers yet, do you by chance know what time the DCL bus leaves the general area of the WDW hotels?

Thanks!
Eleasa

Our past experience is that the bus picks us up at WDW hotels about "noon-ish" ;)

We have decided to be OK with that. We will get there, they are taking us so the ship will not leave without us and we consider the bus to be a part of our vacation. The timing lets us sleep in, eat a leisurely breakfast and, when we get there, walk into a nearly empty terminal. Check in is quite quick and we walk through the MICKEY EARS without a crowd. :thumbsup2
.

Noonish doesn't sound too bad! As you say, sleep in, leisurely breakfast etc. If we don't meet before, see ya on the bus! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info! :flower3:

Eleasa

We are staying at the All Star Movies so we're right in the area! We'll probably be on the same bus :) I asked a DCL representative at the resort last time we visited wdw - they said to make sure you check in w/ the DCL rep when you arrive to find out what time the bus will leave. She said it's typically around 12:30 or so.

I don't mind the late hour, but I think we have to be out of our rooms by 11, so it does present a problem b/c I don't want to have to haul our luggage around for an hour and a half. Maybe there is a place in the lobby where we can store it or we could always put it in the car too. :rolleyes1

I graduated high school in Lafayette, LA.

That's where my BIL lives. He's a dentist there & a very good cook - we do Thanksgiving in Lafayette every year and we always eat well!

Hmmm, I like jambalaya but I like etoufee even better. Trouble is, you just can't get crawfish this side of the Mississippi. ;)

Dee, I know you were. I was just trying to make sure I understood about the dress code. I didn't want to think it was ok for cruise casual for brunch and then get turned away to change into something more formal or think it was formal and realize I could go cruise casual. Wasn't trying to start a dress code war.

My problem wasn't with you (or Linda, for that matter). I was upset because you made / asked what I considered to be a valid comment / question and someone started a war over it. I resented that, and the fact that it got started after I did what I considered to be my job. When I book clients I always give them any caveats / pertinent information for the location they will be going to. I organized the brunches and felt part of the job of the organizer was to reiterate the Palo "code of conduct" -- dress code, no smoking...Obviously you needed that information so I did my job right, but it caused you and others on this board grief. That annoys me.

I will be the guy you haveto run around, I currently might be able to WALK around the ship 2 or 3 times. But the good news is that I have 29 days 8 hours and 15 mins before the all aboard call, to heal.:rotfl:

T

Yeah, I twisted my ankle in Tae Kwon Do class on Tuesday night...It's a lot better so I have every reason to believe I can do the Hiking Rabacal excursion I booked...Fingers crossed!

Here are some luggage tags some people may want to use. We used these on our last cruise but I figured I would post them with our dates if anyone wanted to use. My plan is to make some that match our logo too but that is at the bottom of a very long to do list. ;)

What you can do is just print them out, wirte your info and them laminate them together. After that you can punch a hole on the side and place on your luggage.

Well, your checked in luggage will be taken to the ship earlier in the morning. Your day bags can be stored with Bell Service until you are ready to board the bus -- give them ~ 5 minutes to retrieve it. Go to the pool if the weather is nice :)

Ouch! I could see that happening. The guys were spraying down part of the deck when I was out there a few times. I believe I remember a few eliptical machines in the gym. :confused3 I recently had a *horrible* fall off a treadmill and don't think I can get back on one any time soon...so I may opt for the eliptical machine.

How old is she?
Has she been to WDW before?
Why is she not interested now? :confused3

 Jan

She's almost 32. We just aren't amusement park kind of people. We have a Six Flags in St Louis and we're lucky if we go once a year with "the office." I think there is so much more than roller coasters at WDW to do and see. My DGD really wants to see Cinderella castle. I think she might be disappointed in that. I have ordered the newest Passporter for WDW and plan to read up. I have been spending a little bit of time over on the WDW boards, too. When I have more info, I will make my pitch. I hope to get us all there for the first time before our Dream cruise next summer, if not before.

Don't the resorts take care of getting your luggage to the ship like the Hyatt does? We just leave our bags outside our door and they show up outside our cabin.

Sorry, not trying to start another war. I am asking a valid question. Having never been to WDW, I don't know the ins and outs. Sorry, if you were referring to your carry on bags-I wasn't thinking of them. :)

Terry, I'm off to work now but I look forward to seeing your new siggie everyday when I get home. Good one today!

What is the trick to get the Google spread sheet to print out? I only get part of the page. I must be doing something wrong.

Linda, I love you, but WDW is NOT an amusment park. By ANY stretch of the imagination. Really.

And obviously someone didn't read my reply to B&tB... :rolleyes1

The goofy "wave" pool was actually pretty fun though on the last EB TA! :rotfl2:

:lmao: Didn't think of that - and RCL thinks they have the only surfing at sea?
Bet it'll make the hot tubs more "vigorous" as well.

and thanks - those luggage tags are great! Now, will we all get our luggage confused on the pier ?

Bekaah -- you (and DH) are confirmed for Palo Group 2. We now have 14 people in each brunch group! YAY!

I know! That's what I'm trying to tell her!! Help me convince my DD to go with me to WDW.

I was still replying after you had already posted. (I had to go get dressed and left my post up while I did it. That's what made me come back and say what I said.)

......

Sounds like a good plan. :thumbsup2
DW is so different from Six Flags (granted, I have not been to your Six Flags in over 20 years, but most theme parks are roller coasters and log plumes, WDW is not. We don't like roller coasters but love WDW. The rides are stories and the more you know the story, the more you enjoy the ride.

The castle seems to mostly be a backdrop for events and a walk through to see the murals (which ARE lovely) with a Princess meal in the restaruant upstairs. I bet your DGD would love that.

Animal Kingdom is like fancy zoo with some rides that are more fun for me than the St.L zoo train. EPCOT has movies and rides about different countries and future things so that can be sort of like a foreign exchange experience. Hollywood Movie Studio (is that the new name?) has attractions about various movies so you are kind-of "IN" the movie. Your DD might be quite surprised.

Best wishes with your plan! :yay:

:yay::cool1:IT IS REALLY GOING TO HAPPEN:cool1::yay:

Sorry I got carried away. HO HUM our cruise doc's arrived today
