BOULDER RIDGE VILLAS & COPPER CREEK VILLAS & CABINS: Wilderness Lodge DVC Expansion Thread

Hmmm
No they didn't honor the WL rate. We had to pay the difference.
..... Sorry they didn't do more for you. I have heard of others being moved without the additional expense but, some were not. Some were offered $100 per night credit to stay at WL, and others just extra fast passes. Strange how it differs far and wide? I have to say, some CM I spoke with were trying to be very accommodating, while a couple others were down right rude. I came very close to canceling the trip due to one CM in particular who I am positive flagged our reservation. After that call, everyone was nice to start out with then came back with a totally different demeanor. I'm not sure why either because I was not rude or anything to him. We'll probably get there and be whisked off to that remote cabin at FW with no power, water, or bedding!

Thanks. It does seem like there is no consistency in what they offer. I asked if there was anything they could do to compensate us for all of the closures during our stay and they downplayed the construction and said it woudn't affect us. Oh well, I can't complain we will still be at Disney for Christmas! :santa:

I have been so torn and upset about this whole thing since I found out. I don't know what to do. I have never stayed at a Deluxe Resort before and haven't been to WDW at Christmas for 5 years. Since it is also a milestone birthday for me, I decided to book WL since I had seen and heard so many amazing things about it at Christmas. About a month after I booked I found out about the construction. I had a trip at POFQ ruined because of pool construction (that I wasn't warned about at all). I really want to stay at WL because of the decorations, I also have a courtyard bunk bed room, which I know my daughter will love, but I am just so worried the construction is going to be terrible and I am going to regret spending all of this money. I did receive a letter and a phone call, but wasn't offered anything, plus the phone call I received the person's phone kept cutting out and I couldn't hear most of what she said. I've heard the Christmas decor at AKL is pretty amazing too so I'm tempted to switch there, but the bunk bed rooms are more money. Also, the transportation options from AKL aren't as good and I'd planned on the boat from WL to MK and to Fort Wilderness. What to do, what to do... The dilemma. Part of me wants to wait until 10/26 to get reports back from people there, but then it might be too late to switch resorts.

I think most everyone on here would agree the only consistency is inconsistency when calling Disney Travel.
Many people were moved at no additional expense, so it is not right that some are not. There are several amenities that will be closed and even just demo of the DVC pool might be more than some want to see or hear, and that's just the beginning of this project. My experience has been that if they offer a move, AKL is their first option. If you know of another resort your would prefer, don't hesitate to ask. Don't feel bad in calling back until you get someone willing to help.

I thought I would chime in here. When I called the first time no WL compensation was offered but I was offered a move at no additional cost. I had decided to think on it and call back. When I called back I said I wanted to stay at WL. They offered me memory maker and fast passes. I specifically asked about the $100 discount and the CM said it isn't being offered anymore. Ok I hung up and took what I can get. But after a couple weeks of thinking on it I decided to call back.
The CM commented on how any times I called. Lol! I very kindly said that the last time I called the CM told me that $100 compensation is not offered anymore but I stated I know that's not true so I'm asking again. She said ok we can give you the $100 night discount.

Moral of the story is to not give up.

I am very happy with my choice to stay at WL. First time deluxe and I will enjoy it despite the construction.

Great News for you and anyone else who didn't get the resolution they wanted!

I'm just happy that Disney didn't go with their original plans for expansion at the Wilderness Lodge.

Any concerns about construction noise or disruption in the deluxe CL rooms the first week of October? I'm guessing these should be safe, but would like to inquire with all of your experts at this resort. I keep seeing October 26...but then it says early October in other places. Should I ask for a specific location, courtyard view? Thanks for any advice....

A story....

Sandy and I will be at the VWL, both Nov 2015, and April 2016.... and could care LESS about construction. There WILL be construction - from 9 AM until when the Unions have decided to go home... in any case, not past 7 PM.

We've already gone through a "Quiet Pool" refurb. It amounted to NOTHING, in our opinion, other than the bar crowding the designated smoking area a bit....

We get up at 8, breakfast at 9 (always at Whispering Canyon), hit the parks.... dinner about 6:30 PM.... For Us? The whole thing, over 2-3 years, is probably going to be a non-event. Except for one thing: The absolute GLORY of everyone abandoning the WL out of fear, and driving the price down :). Folks? Thank You :).

I replied to DD5's PM - don't want anyone thinking I ignored your question. If anyone else needs to see the response, let me know and I'll copy/paste it.

I'm having the same concerns for our 10/17-10/24 trip. Remaining optimistic, but seeing all the scaffolding in photos makes me nervous. Appreciate any advice!

:welcome: to the DIS and the thread @amthomann!

Are you also in a Deluxe room like DD5's friends? Yours (and DD5's friends') trips actually fall before the official date for the beginning of construction which is 26 OCT. As far as the scaffolding, it was reported (yesterday?) by a guest on the WL/VWL thread that they only saw one set of scaffolding. Last month, I saw two sets. One or two sets will be up around WL while you're there. I talked to a construction worker last month who said they predicted 4-6 more months of scaffolding that will overlap with the beginning of the DVC construction. They aren't putting guests behind the scaffolding and most have reported that it hasn't bothered them at all. The scaffolding has been up since the beginning of the year around WL. They are doing timber repairs and painting.

Thanks for the welcome! No deluxe - we're just two adults and a 7yo. The pic I saw was on the easywdw Twitter feed. We still tend to go back to the room for breaks during the day, so construction noise was my main worry. Glad to know they aren't putting guests behind the scaffolding and to have some reassurance that the major construction should not be starting until the 26th!

So I'm still obsessing about my decision to stay at WL vs move. Hoping for any advice or feedback that can give me peace of mind:).

We are going 12/16-12/21. Party of 4, including me, my mom (who has some difficulty walking) my adult sister, and my 7 yo. For my mom and sister, it will be their first trip to WDW and they're unlikely to return anytime soon. So I'd really like it to be "perfect."

We'd originally booked a woods view bunk room. Over the course of multiple phone calls, we were offered $75 off woods view room + extra FP, move to AK pool view, move to CR Garden wing, and finally upgrade to Courtyard view at WL (so less impacted by construction) + extra FP. NOTE: I wasn't offered any of this without asking politely but repeatedly what they could do for us:)

I chose the upgrade to courtyard, reasoning that I love WL and have wanted to stay there at Xmas, plus worried that CR Garden might be a hike for my mom, and AKL (which we love) is kinda far from MK for a short trip that will mostly be spent at MK. Plus extra FPs are helpful as we're trying to see a lot in 6 days.

Now, I'm of course second guessing, wondering if I should have moved, or should still try to move?

TIA for reading this novel (which I realize is a lot of obsessing about a problem that I'm lucky to have in the first place) and for any feedback/advice!

My opinion: you made the best choice :) Sounds should be minimal on the courtyard side, and the rest of the resort from there down to the docks should remain untouched by the construction. Besides, what other resort offers such a beautiful lobby for the holidays? Enjoy!

Thank you! Don't know why I've been agonizing about this so much, but really appreciate the feedback and reassurance:)
