BOULDER RIDGE VILLAS & COPPER CREEK VILLAS & CABINS: Wilderness Lodge DVC Expansion Thread

This one is for anyone who decided to move due to the construction...are you still ok with where you switched to? I'm still having a hard time wanting to stay at CR especially during the holiday season. What resorts did most post October Dis'ers choose? At the time, CR just seemed the safest alternative to avoid construction. Now I think I made a mistake...????

I went through exactly the same thing. Got moved to CR Garden View (after first being offered either $75/night credit to stay in the same room or a move AKL). But then I had second thoughts, especially given that we're traveling with my mom, who has trouble walking, and the Garden Wing at CR seemed like a far walk from everything. Plus had been so excited to stay at WL with the holiday decor, and CR feels kinda sterile to me. So, I got moved back to WL, upgraded to courtyard view (so hopefully not as affected by the construction) and got two extra FPs per day. But still having second thoughts about whether I made the right choice, especially when I read about all the construction and everyone moving! Though I don't think I can make any more changes, since I'm pretty sure the folks at guest services will hang up on me immediately if I call one more time:)

Don't know that any of that is helpful, except in the sense that I think it's a really hard decision!

We switched to AKL because we have young kids and are planning LOTS of resort time. I'm kind of regretting the switch, WL is just so much more convenient to MK plus we had our hearts set on WL. But, with all the aneminities that will closed along with 9 hours of construction work a day it just seemed best to switch . . . At the time anyways.

I have not made a switch yet but I too received the letter as well as a call from disney concerning our November stay at WL. It is a bummer for us since our favorite parts of the resort are the quite beach and the small quiet pool. We also do tend to spend some time at the resort mid day... I plan to call tomorrow to see what other options are available.

We made the switch to Poly. Was told only minor pool construction. Now found out it could still be major work and painting/refurb of non-DVC long houses. I've thrown my hands up and said what will happen is going to happen. If it wasn't for a race I'd just upgrade over to GF but I'm stuck with what is available for race transportation.

The Garden Wing could be a lot of walking for some depending on what room you would get. I also think the construction will be much like any other in that some will be affected, some will not feel it as much. It truly was and is a hard decision. We loved BLT so, not sure why CR doesn't hold any appeal to me?

I have always dreamed of staying at Poly :) I think we might just stick with WL. I like the relaxing boat ride and it sounds like quite a few people have a change heart after making a change.

I have heard AKL is very much like a vacation within a vacation. We have never been there but, it is obviously the most unique resort on property. Moving was a tough decision. CR is super convenient, but it just looks cold and sterile. Maybe I will change my mind once there?

Hopefully, if you do stay and are eligible, Disney has given you a discounted rate? Many received $100 off per night if their stay would be impacted by the closures and construction.

I follow Tikiman closely and while we like Poly, it sounded like it could be a big project. The pictures people have sent look like a lot of scrim is hiding the majority though. Some have said it didn't impact them much at all. Maybe a room on the opposite side of the Marina toward "GF?"

I have read that too here this evening and no, I was not offered a discount. I will need to.do.some checking.

PS.....please forgive me as I completely realize this is a first world problem...."oh boo hoo, I'm going to a deluxe at WDW that I'm not totally loving the decor! I am completely grateful to be able to go and should just appreciate the opportunity to try something new That otherwise, we would never have a budget for. I just wanted that big, fuzzy Christmas "hug" WL gives you from the opulent tree to the roaring fireplace.

We received the letter about construction for our early December stay. I called Guest Services and we were not offered any compensation. We moved to the GF. We were looking forward to the Christmas decorations at the lodge. I guess we will still visit to see them during our trip.

Did they honor the rate at WL? The reason I ask is so many people have been offered different options and some were moved at no expense, some had to pay the difference. There is no rhyme or reason why offers varied so greatly.

If you loved BLT, I'm sure you'll love CR, too. We were switched to GF (but, I would've also switched to Poly or CR) and we'll visit WL during our trip to get that warm Christmasy "hug" as you put it. I did plan to stay there at this particular time of year for a reason, so it is slightly disappointing from that standpoint. But I also know that I would never pay GF rates even at a discount, so I'm completely content with our decision. I definitely understand everyone's predicament.

Yeah the plan is to try and get s room not facing the quiet pool. I wasn't trying to complain it was just the fact they knew the construction was still pretty intense over there and didn't say that when we moved to it. I'll have lovely vacation no matter just kind of frustrated with construction.

I'm just happy that Disney didn't go with their original plans for expansion at the Wilderness Lodge.
