Target had the Mr. Coffee Kurig style coffee maker on sale. We have never drank coffee from a Kurig so we thought this would be an economical way to try it. Maybe all of the Kurig style coffee makers are like this, but the tallest cup setting barely gives you a full regular coffee mug amount. We tried the sample coffees included plus the 8'Oclock coffee K-cups and really don't care for any of these coffees. I bought the reusable k-cup filters to fill my own coffee with, but they don't quite work right. The grounds seem hardly saturated and the coffee comes out weak.

Is this typical of the Kurig K-cup style coffee makers? This was a Christmas gift to ourselves, but now have put it away for the next spring yard sale. :sad2:

My DH is retired military, and you KNOW he loves his coffee!
We've had a Keurig for at least 2 years (if not longer) and he loves it. He buys coffee in different strengths- from Bold to Mild and although he hasn't always repurchased a few types, overall he's been really happy with it.
If you belong to a warehouse club (Costco, BJs, Sam's) they do demos every so often. Or maybe a friend might have one.
Don't give up, but maybe hold out for the real thing.

HTH!

FWIW, Mr Coffee is using Keurig "technology". I was skimming an article about it, and how two of Keurig's main patents aren't theirs now, so ahead of time they "licensed" things and partnered with the other companies, like Mr Coffee and even Starbucks. Pretty brilliant, IMO. Anyway, Mr Coffee isn't really any less of the real thing, since they are partnered.

We have a Keurig as well and it normally takes 2 k-cups to fill a mug. If we use just 1, the mug is less then half full. I do think for the price we pay for these when it say mug, it would fill the mug! The k-cups aren't cheap either. We buy the dunkin donut coffee, Foglers coffee, hot choc and apple cider. You just have to try different flavors until you get one of your liking.

Our Keurig using the tallest setting fills a regular mug to the very top. We have to use bigger cups since we add cream/sugar.

Same here. We use our Disney refillable mugs and can usually get two cups of coffee from one Keurig cup.

There is a fill to max line on the removable water dispenser. I wonder if i fill past that basically filling the whole container if that would brew just as well and give me more coffee? I am only using one k-cup of coffee per mug. I didnt know you hhad to use 2 for the tall mug setting!:faint: That could get expensive. One last complaint about my cofee maker is that the coffe comes out hot but I still need to microwave it anither 20 seconds to get the temp up a little.

This is one of the brewers where you have to add water every time, right? I think this style is a little more limiting, because you don't have options of how large a cup you want to brew, and also because you have no choice of water temperature setting. You might be happier with one of the brewers with a reservoir, which would allow you to brew a larger cup of coffee. I don't think you can add much extra water to one of the minis.

Also, the My K Cup filter is probably the least appealing of the reusable filters. You might have better luck with an Ekobrew reusable filter...

Good luck!

I have the Keurig with the reservior that holds water, and there are three size settings on it. The biggest one does not fill my over-sized mug, but the middle one fills a regular size mug with enough room in it for cream, and the biggest size fills it to the top, basically. If I want to fill my over-sized mug I make a stronger roast, and run the middle setting twice on the same cup.

Don't put it away for a yardsale - take it back - it is still within Christmas return season and you have a legitimate reason to return it!! :)

I have had the same experience with my Keurig brand machine.

So what does everyone think if I try this? The water resevior on my Mr. Coffee Keurig holds enough for 2 cups.....what if I fill to the max line as directed (which is not the whole total space of the water resevior), use a bigger mug, and run the brew 2x's using the SAME k-cup coffee insert?

Different keurig models have different cup sizes available. The one i have in my office at work has 2 cup sizes only. But the big one fills a regular size coffee mug. The Keurig we have at home I bought off of QVC and it has I think 5 settings. We use the second from the top for regular coffee mugs. The top one will fill a supersize mug.

To fill your mug with your Mr. Coffee, you could run a second cup of water through the SAME K-cup. Don't change out the k-cup. I don't think people were implying to use 2 K-cups per mug but rather run it through 1 K-cup twice.

It also takes some time to find out which brand of kcups you like. My DH settled on Donut House Decaf. My DD and mom like the Caribou breakfast blend.

Also, some keurigs have temp control. Not sure about the Mr. Coffee version.

Hmmm....I do have the receipt, but not the box. Would they still take it back?

This machine has two cup sizes, pictures I should say, small cup and large cup. We always use the large size cup picture, but it barely fills a regular size coffee mug. The water resevior holds two cups of water so doesn't use it all after one brew even using the large size cup. Ok, I will give this a try, using 2 cups worth of water (two brew cycles) but only using ONE K-cup of coffee. No temp control :(. Jeezzz, I had no idea there were so many different features depending on the brand of coffee maker.

IMO this further weakens the coffee.

Yep. We actually did try this, and I did not find the coffee any stronger but weaker. But I ran it for two separate cups of coffee, not all of it in the same cup. Am I losing you?

Completely. :confused3

This is why I said that when I do this, I use a stronger coffee than I normally drink. That way the "watering down" just brings it back to the strength I like.
