Botox...what do you think?

There are so many people in the world who are beautiful just the way they are and then they go pay a mint just to make themselves even "better".

Then are those people who really could use the help. The children born disfigured. The vetrans, firemen, and cancer survivors with limbs missing or burnt faces. You know, All the people with the HUGE hearts and hidden tears. Not only do most of them not have the money to improve their own lives, but IMHO cosmetic surgery is just a slap in the face to these wonderful people who cannot possibly live up to the idealistic image.

WHY can people not just be happy as they are ment to be?
I'm pretty happy. I just would like to have my frown lines disappear... :goodvibes

Just like I had braces to fix my teeth! I guess just as I don't see buck teeth as the way I was meant to be, I don't see my frown lines as the way I was ment to be. I am not suffering from any psychological issue...I just really wonder about botox.

And, I certainly don't see it connected in any way, shape or form, to a purposeful slap in the face to the disfigured... I really don't understand your post (and I'm pretty open-minded.) I, personally, am not trying to live up to any preconceived idealistic image, and am not suggesting that those who are disfigured need to...

I just am wondering about botox! :rolleyes1

LOL! The funny thing is...I do the same thing. But, I still am thinking about the procedure. I know I don't want to look like Meg Ryan or Joan Rivers...I want my face to move. I just want to get rid of the frown lines...

How do you like the microdermabrasion? Are you having good results?

I love microdermabrasion...it's the only thing that makes me skin look great. I try to get them monthly, but sometimes I get too busy.

I've had restalyne in my lips to make them fuller....loved it, but it hurts and I never get around to redoing it. I liked it that the effect lasted much longer than collagen did when I tried that. I've heard restalyne can be used to help with wrinkles.

I am concerned about the potential side effects of botox because of what it's derived from. I don't know...don't think I'd go for using a toxin like that, but you never know. I might change my mind someday. My sister uses it and likes it. I haven't talked to her about it in depth however.

I've had a mini-cheek lift that pretty much solved any minor wrinkles I had beginning, and I look incredibly natural. No one knows I've had anything done (my own grandma didn't notice...). I'm 36 but I think I subtracted five years. I'd go for a minor procedure that's permanent (with a great doctor of course) before going for temporary fixes over the long haul. At least, that was my decision and I've liked it so far :woohoo:

I'd love a tummy tuck, too (a mini) but I don't want to go through any more surgery :rotfl2: And I'm always thinking I'd love to have more children if I found the right man to marry, so what's the point of doing it now? :thumbsup2

The only problem is this: if you already have a deep worry line in your forehead or between the eyes (I do) then not only do you have to get Botox but you also have to have the lines filled. I had some surgery about 6 months ago and at my post-op I asked about Botox and my lines and that's what my PS said I'd have to do to get rid of the lines completely. The injections here, were $250 and they do all the Botox shots in one day. I'm not ready to do the whole fillin' and shootin' yet but I do have a money jar that says "Botox Bucks"!

I had Botox shots for my migraines. Works great on the migraines. Did not have one for three months. The bad thing about it is you cannot move your eyebrows or anything in the area of the shots. I did not like that feeling. DH said I always had the same look on my face. Like I was not showing any emotion at all. Have to admit I would do it again in a heatbeat if my insurance would cover it.

So the insurance didn't pay at all even though it was for the migraines? How much did it cost? PM me if you don't want to post (or ignore me if you don't want to PM :teeth: ). I doubt that my insurance company would pay, either. How often were you having the migraines before the botox?

That's just not true!! I had lines so deep between my eyebrows that you could've parked a Mac Truck in there. It took a year of so for the indents themselves to go away but once the muscles aren't overusing/abusing the area anymore and if you're skin is still young enough to be elastic, it'll fill in. You can't even tell that I ever had wrinkles between my eyebrows now! I started having the injections for migraines, what a relief, and I looked so good that now I have them for my crowsfeet as well.

First off, your kitchen is gorgeous!!!

My skin is not really that bad. I had a cancer scare when I was in my mid-twenties (melanoma in situ) so I immediately stopped baking in the sun. During the summer, I am vigilant about sunscreen. I am not always so good about it during the colder months...I live outside of Philadelphia so I rarely see the sun in the winter!

However, I am starting to see the effects of time. I have lines on my forehead and crows feet--not deep but noticable. My migraines and the tension that ensues now has me furrowing my brow far more than I ever have before. Because of that, I am starting to get those lines between my eyebrows. That is what really bugs me...I feel like I have a hard time "unfurrowing" my brow.

And, I HATE my migraines--never had them until pregnancy and now I get a couple (at least) each month. They are such a pain (literally and figuratively) but I get some relief from Imitrex. Unfortunately, 50 mg used to do the trick...now I am taking 100-200mg at a pop (in addtion to 600 mg of ibuprofen), which makes me feel strange. So the botox or a different medication may be in order.

I am thinking that I can kill two birds with one stone, so to speak.

Cindyluwho, how often to you have to get the shots? Are they working at keeping away your migraines? Is it really expensive? If you don't want to publicly divulge, feel free to PM me...

Thanks a million!

Did your migraines return after the three months? Wow, I would love to get rid of those dreaded migraines...

Yes my migraines did return.

I think my cousin has botox injections because she produces a lot of sweat.. or something like that.

All I know is that I, personally, wouldn't have any procedure done (from botox to 'going under the knife') for purely cosmetic reasons. I think a lot of things are just too risky, and I find it absolutely shocking the amount of people who are willing to undergo some procedures - involving anesthesia, invasive surgery, etc. - so willingly, for vanity reasons (I'm not talking about people who have suffered terrible burns or who are misfigured, as for them it is usually a case of wanting to look 'normal' and not be stared at in the street). :sad2:

Yes, they work for the migraines but after 4-5 months the migraines will return. They start off slowly at first, not really too bad then come back with full force around 6 months. I only got the migraines during that, ahem, time of the month when I was off the pill. I started staying on the pill for 3 months straight, then off for a week, then on for another 3 months. But the migraines would come every time I was off the pills. The botox has been a lifesaver. Imitrix didn't work, just made me ralph. The only thing that worked is 10mg of Valium which just allows you to sleep through it and not care. But who can lay in bed for 4 days? As the botox wears off, Exedrin Migraine will take care of almost 100% of the pain now. Yeah!!! My last visit, just last week, cost me $540 that was for between the eyes, crows feet & forehead. I have barely any in my forehead because I want to be able to raise my eyebrows, etc but it really took care of the wrinkles! I love it, love it, love it! Make sure you go to a Dr that listens to what you want and what you need! Walk away if you're uncomfortable with what the Dr says and go find a Dr you like!

Thanks so much for the info. I am excited about the prospect of losing the migraines and the wrinkles. I am going to ask lots of questions and then decide. Your first-hand experience is worth so much to me. Thanks a million. I really needed to "talk" with someone who had direct experience, and as always, the folks at the DIS helped out again!

I hope your weekend is lovely!

I went to a PS for a consultation. I want a nose job and I wanted either a forehead lift or upper eye lift. He recommended Botox instead, and said I wasn't ready for a brow lift. I'd rather have something permanent, but he says if he did a brow lift, I would always look surprised and not natural. So, I'm going to try the botex and see if I like it.

Regarding Botox -- please pick a very reputable physician to administer. Also, check the bottle. I believe Alcon (the maker of Botox) has a hologram on each bottle to show that the Botox is in fact Botox, not some knock-off.

I have friends who use botox. It certainly rids the wrinkles. When I see some wrinkles I will use it myself. I am almost 33 , but have no wrinkles yet, and .anticipating them with my love of the Florida Sun. Go to a reputable clinic.

Oh, please let me know how it goes! I don't want to have that surprised, "A-birthday-party-for-me!!!!" look.

Wow! Thanks for the tip. I had no idea about that!

I am a purist. I don't like putting things into my body - even an aspirin. I personally wouldn't do it, just for that reason. I'm worried about the fact that they haven't been able to study or document the long term effects it has on processing through the body. That said, I don't look down on people who have the procedure done. We all do what we need to do to feel good about ourselves. I certainly don't like the frown line between my eyes. Certainlly if there was something topical to take care of it, I'd be all over it. :teeth:

I'm planning on an injection within the next year or so to make my forehead stay smoother.

I have a squint line and I also have parallel lines from raising my eyebrows (like when you are trying to appear interested in something.. :) ) I have never worn bangs, so my forehead has always gotten more sun exposure than most peoples.

I don't see a thing wrong with it...but Botox is as far as I'll go with facial procedures (but you better believe I'd buy some breasts if I had the money.)

Thanks for weighing in! I have those parallet lines, too. I don't think I would do more to my face than botox...but let's see what the next ten years bring. :rotfl: I could probably change my mind--just depends on gravity!
