Bother you to Borrow?

It really bothers me to borrow points, especially if it almost depletes my points from the upcoming Use Year. I have never once been able to bank anything, only borrow. What I can't understand is if a lot of people borrow then it seems that at some point there should be a lot of availability for other people, and somehow that never seems to be the case.

Are you a borrower or a banker?

Usually a banker, but occationally we bank right after reserving at the 11 month window, and then we want to take an additional trip, and have to borrow. No big deal. I just make sure I keep track of how many points were banked so I am sure I use all of those the next year and don't lose any.

BANKER! Even if it is only 5 or 6 points. We had to borrow points a few years ago in order for our extended family to be able to go with us and it bothered us the entire time. We had to cut short our summer trip the following year because we just don't like to borrow the points! We are now back on the schedule of banking a few points every year.

Banker, not a borrower! :p

Use to be a Banker now a Borrower.

We decided to treat family (both sides - 8 on one side and 10 on the other) to a special vacation. After 2004 we might get back to banking, if we limit our tips to 2 times a year, if not then we'll be a borrower until the next add-on.

(we've only had to borrow about 25% of next years points).

BANKER ! :smooth: although for the first time this year we banked our points and decided to take a last minute trip in aug. my use year sept, go figure. ms had to borrow the points, now we have our banked 2002 points and 2003 points. i just booked our stay next year using our 2002 points, and banked the rest of our 2003 points, the problem is i still have 2002 points left and have to be used by aug. 2004 and we wont be able to take a second trip to florida before then, only shorter distance trips unless we can find heap a cheap airfare. im going to either have to take family with or rent them out.  :p

I have a friend who has 151 points. She only goes every other year. Her DH passed away suddenly last year, so she had no idea how to do all of this. When we were both at OKW last January, I reminded her that she had points to bank. She did it while we were there. She only had 16 to bank, but now those points have to be used in her 2003 UY, and she is not going until 2004. I am trying to tell her she needs to rent her 16 points. Any other advice?

It doesn't bother me in the least to borrow when we have to. We use the number of points that we need to do what we want to do. I have two separate contracts with two separate use years. One is presently in a borrowing situation and the other is in a banking situation. It will hoefully all even out in the end but guess which one I will use next year.

We're both - banker on one contract, borrow on the other. Our OKW contract has an Oct UY and we usually go in August, so we end up borrowing on that one. Now our BWV has an April UY and we go end of March crossing over into April - talk about confusing! We end up banking some of the current year into the following to use them in April.

I always borrow points. I planned to do this when I joined. The reason is because if there is a year or two I can't go because of something unforseen.

since when we bought our DVC interest, the breakeven point was 7-8 years, borrowing from future year realizes the value of purchase more rapidly. Of course that my "finance geek" time-value-of-money argument. Backing this up of course is the knowledge that if you borrow from future years, there is NO chance of those points ever expiring unused :smooth:

Despite this convincing argument to myself, we are still gonna bank the bulk of 2004's allocation and get something BIG at the 11 month window for 2005. So it only bothers me to bank them, since there is the horrible prospect of points expirign unused; borrowing make solid economic sense!

(I know that CFA charter would come in handy...)

We do both - bank and borrow.

Depends on how many times we go that year, for how long, and with who. Sometimes we need more points, sometimes less.

We are now definitely in the borrow category after booking our January 2004 extravaganza with banked, current, and borrowed points. We now have less than half of our 12/04 allocation left.

But since we have more points than DH has vacation time, it works out at the end.

Hi,

Im a borrower, a borrower, a borrower..
When we 1st joined we only lived 3 hours away and wanted to go all the time.
Since we have moved to Memphis it is a lot harder.. So we use our points for bigger trips(DCL) and my boys are grown up and they enjoy using some of the points.
I figure Im going be 82 in 2042, so I may not be able to go that year...

I used to be a banker, but after an extended family trip in a two bedroom last year, we have become borrowers and I can't stay away long enough to catch up. So I guess I'll just keep borrowing and just write off 2042 points.:p

Definitely a banker! Like to be able to bank, even if it's only a few points. And while I wouldn't mind if I had to borrow a few points, DH is strongly opposed to borrowing. For the next trip, I suggested borrowing TWO points so we could stay an extra day, but he acted like I said a dirty word-"Borrow". He thinks we have more points than we need, but we only have 275.

We are always in the borrowing mode. We never have enough to carry over. I guess we should consider adding on. I

We're bankers. Never had to borrow. Like Simba's Mom's DH, my DH also thinks the "B" word is a dirty word. But because sometimes we stay in studios instead of the 1 bdrm, we've always had points to bank. This year we're taking our third trip because we had points we had to use and will still have more than half to bank for 2004. Trying to figure out who may want to go with us in Oct. 2004????

We're just starting out, but we'll have 4 points to bank! Michelle, our Guide reminded me to bank the 50 VWL add ons once they become deeded. We used MB for the 200 BWV. I had to tell her that we've planned to spend 46 of them, a special Dec. weekend get-away!:D
