UK police are investigating the poisoning of a Russian former security agent and critic of President Vladimir Putin living in exile in Britain.

Alexander Litvinenko, a former colonel in the KGB, told the BBC he fell ill after meeting a contact at a London sushi bar on 1 November.

Police say the 44-year-old is in a serious but stable condition in University College Hospital, London.

Clinical experts said he was poisoned with the highly-toxic metal thallium.

i saw that. its amazing that he survived. the old kgb, which doesn't seem unlike the new kgb seemed to favor ricin, which i don't think has an antidote. putin has never been what he wants to appear tol be.

I absolutely agree that Putin has never been what he wants to appear to be. Ruthlessness and vindictiveness used in a extreme desire for control seem to ooze out the seams when he's not looking. The veneer of benovlent dictator just isn't thick enough to hide his true persona.
Putin's not cut from the same cloth as Yeltsin and Gorbachev. Putin takes it to a whole new level. Those two were never able accomplish the things Putin has without detection.

After the poisoning of the now president of Ukraine, who has Western leanings, I'm not a bit surprised. They always figured Putin was behind that, also.
