Hi everyone:

Yes, I live only a half hour south of Boston, but I'm not "from" here.... and even though I LOVE Boston, I am not overly familiar with it!

I am planning to take DH on the Spirit of Boston for a dinner cruise in June. My question is: Which hotels are closest to the pier where this ship is docked?? I remember walking inside a beautiful hotel right on the water, but I can't remember the name of it. The entrance faces the pier, I believe. If you can recommened more than one, that'd be great!

Thanks! :)

Ooohh, oohh, ooohhh. I can finally be of some real help here!! You're thinking of the Boston Harbor Hotel. Beautiful, expensive. We've never stayed there but our more affluent family members have!!! Also, The Longwharf Marriott is there and The Meridian is a short (3-4 mins.) walk away. Sounds like fun.

Hi SeaSpray,
Spirit of Boston cruises are one of my favorite activities in Boston! The hotel you may be thinking of is the Boston Harbor Hotel, it is right where the boat is docked. It is a beautiful hotel, very pricey, but the view is wonderful and it is a four star hotel. A few doors down is the Marriott Long Wharf. This hotel is nice and much less expensive (about 179-229) per night. It is sooo nice to get off the boat and go to your hotel for the evening! Let me know if you have any other questions, and have fun planning!

g4t is right -- you are thinking of the Boston Harbor Hotel. It really is a fabulous place to stay. I can also recommend what used to be the Bostonian and is now, I believe, the Millenium Bostonian just across from Quincy Market. It is really lovely. And I second the recommendation of the Meridian -- I felt very spoiled there.

Thanks everyone!!!!! :) :) :)

I have just looked up The Boston Harbor Hotel (Yes that IS the one I was thinking of!!), The Marriott Longwharf, and Le Meridian. They all seem very nice and exactly what I'm looking for!

My next question is, which ones are the closest? To my DH, a true "vacation" means NO DRIVING. LOL I'd love to drive to Boston, park the car, and not have to drive again until we leave. Although....we do use taxis to get around when we need to...

I'm planning this in advance so I can be sure to save however much $$ it'll take to have a nice couple of days :)

Boston Harbor is the absolute closest, and the Marriott is one block away, and you don't even need to cross the street for the boat as they are both waterfront hotels. Perhaps someone can answer about Le Meridian's location. Boston Harbor and Marriott both have underground garages, very safe, and a valet will bring your car if desired. The cost is about 17-20 per day. We rarely use our car when staying at these hotels, as there is a T stop right at the Longwharf hotel, and of couse taxi's right outside the front door of each hotel. The North End and Faneuil Hall are within walking distance also, so your husband can stay happy!

Thanks Saphire!

I just called all 3 hotels and here are the rates I was given for the night of Friday, June 6th:

Boston Harbor Hotel (no AAA discount)
$305 cityview 400 sq ft, desk and chair, kingbed
$365 harborview 400sq feet, desk and chair, kingbed

Le Meridian (no AAA discount)
$215 king standard room 250-300sq feet, interior poolview or cityview

Marriott Longwharf (AAA discount for standard room only)
$227. king (standard view only available)
$289 concierge 7th floor (top floor) w/ continental breakfast, upgraded amenities.

I don't suppose these hotels offer discounts like the Disney resorts do?! :p

Did you check and see if they have a site online? If so, they may have some specials. I too love the best hotel/resort for the least money:p !

My DH and I stayed at the Long Wharf Marriott for an anniversary weekend and liked it very much - the NE Aquarium is right there, too. The restaurant was excellent. The walk to the Spirit is very short.

I found the exact rates online that I was quoted over the phone, so I guess at the moment anyway, there aren't any internet special prices. I bookmarked the sites and I'll check back from time to time.

I am really going to try and stay at the Boston Harbor Hotel because DH really liked it the time we stopped inside. Otherwise, I know either of the other 2 hotels will be great too :)

Someone recommended the Millenium/Bostonian hotel, and just as a little footnote to that hotel, if you are planning on going on a weekend, they have a farmers market in front of the hotel, and it can get pretty noisy in that area early in the morning.

Also, if you decide on Le Meridian, they have a chocolate buffet that is to die for on the weekends. Nothing healthy, just chocolate served in any way you can imagine.

Have you thought about trying priceline?

Marriott Long Wharf and Club Quarters both come up as 3* Downtown hotels, or 4* Downtown hotels that come up are: Wyndham Boston, Le Meridien, Swissotel, Omni Parker House and
Millennium Bostonian.

It's a gamble with priceline and I've never been to Boston, but we have always been happy with what we've ended up with. When in San Francisco we paid under $70 a night for 4*, got up graded to a 5* and got upgraded upon checkin to a rack rate $700 a night room! It was pretty spectacular! We have never paid over $75 a night and stayed at some very nice places in many cities.

As it gets closer to June, check the Boston Sunday Globe travel section...they sometimes have the less expensive rates advertised if you stay over on a Friday night, which it looks like your'e doing. As the time gets closer, those prices may come down. Probably not so with the Boston Harbor rate, but they do have little packages that include breakfast, etc. Also, if possible, get the harbor view room, you won't be disappointed. You can request the top floor (16th), the view is magnificent!

There is also the SeaPort Hotel which is right across the street from the Spirit of Boston.

You beat me to it I was just going to add the Seaport Hotel!!!

I heard if you wear a New York Yankees cap and shirt you will get very special treatment wherever you go in Boston!!!

DH and I stayed at the Marriot a couple of years back.... we found the rooms quite small for the money we paid...... LOL Plus there was construction noise from the BIG DIG right outside out window....... :( AND the fire alarm went off at 3 am and stayed on even though there was no fire for 45 minutes.....

BUT the location was wonderful!

We plan on trying the Boston Harbor Hotel on our next visit (july or August 2003) on DVC points!

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

I just asked my husband... he said he believes the closest is the Boston Harbor...but the Marriott Longwharf would be a 3 minute walk..

The Seaport Hotel is down by the World Trade Center.. about a 5 to 10 minute cab ride.. with Boston the way it is..
