Wondering if anyone has any money saving airfare tips. Looking to travel late June/early July from the Boston area to Honolulu (Aulani). We have Southwest points we could use to get us to the West Coast. Was thinking of Las Vegas and stay overnight one night each way. Hawaiin Airlines flies nonstop from LAS to HON,do they ever run specials I should be on the lookout for? Any tips or other ideas would be greatly appreciated !:)

I just checked Kayak (www.kayak.com) for flights from Las Vegas and LAX to Honolulu. If you want a non-stop flight, Las Vegas offers it only on Hawaiian Airlines. You have more non-stop airline options from LAX. Unless you specifically want to visit Las Vegas, I would use the Southwest points to fly all the way to LA.

We are flying to Honolulu in January using American Airlines miles on American, and our non-stop flight is from Dallas.

This won't be until early 2016. We might be flying out to Hawaii as well. Our home airport is Cincinnati, but we'll fly out where it's cheapest (probably Louisville or Dayton, but maybe Indianapolis). Taking into consideration a hotel room in either Vegas or LA, would it be cheaper to fly SW or Frontier into one of those cities, spend the night, then continue to Hawaii on another airline the next day?

If you can fly with another carrier besides Hawaiian I would srongly suggest it. We had a severe medical issue and HA did absolutely nothing to make our issue any easier. And to top it off, they will not let you speak with anyone on the phone. All correspondence has to be thru email for "audit" purposes. And good luck trying to get them to respond to your email

Thanks for your input. Looks like Alaskan airlines is an option from some West Coast cities. Anyone with any experience with that airline, specials they may run?

I assume you are actually looking for flights between Las Vegas and Honolulu (HNL), rather than Las Vegas (LAS) to Huron, SD (HON), ;)

You might do better just getting tickets from BOS-HNL rather than using Southwest miles to get to the west coast, then booking separate RT tickets from there to Honolulu. Or, look for flights from SFO, LAX or SAN; many better options than flying from Las Vegas.

I heard of someone who ended up here in New Hampshire at the Manchester airport instead of Manchester, England. What a surprise that must have been.

Have to watch those airport codes!

Travelers from Seattle and Portland often fly on Alaska. They do a very good job compared to other airlines. We get the Alaska Air Visa card and it comes with a $110 companion fare ticket that you can use every year. So we pay about $700 for the first ticket and $110 for the second. A pretty good deal. You can fly Alaska from Logan to Honolulu but you have to stay over night in Seattle or Portland on the way over. Coming back you can take the red eye to Seattle and get a morning flight to Logan.

We flew Alaska from Oakland to Honolulu (Southwest flies to Oakland). We used American FF miles and were in first class but our friends paid about $400 each and flew coach. We were all happy with Alaska and would fly them again.

It was our first time at Oakland airport and I would definitely go through there again.
