Borrowing Question

I want to call Dec. 2011 to book a trip for July 2012 ... Am I able to borrow from my 2013 points to book that trip? So, can I borrow 2013 points in Dec. 2011 for a trip planned for July 2012?

If the stay will take place during your 2012 UY, you can borrow from your 2013 UY. When you call does not matter, the points used are determined by the dates of the stay.

Points you use for a trip are determined by when you will be at WDW not date you call to reserve. You do not give use year so your question cannot be definitely answered. If your use year begins before July (meaning you have a Feb, Mar, Apr, or June use year), then your July 2012 trip would take place in your 2012 use year and you could borrow points from 2013. If your use year begins after July (Aug, Sep, Oct, or Dec), then that July trip would fall within your 2011 use year and you could borrow from your 2012 use year.

In a related question, your points are available at the beginning of your UY, right? If your UY is July, then July 1 you would get your points for 2012 and could also use banked 2011 points and if you needed to borrow, you could also use 2013 points, right?

Right. Points are put into your account on the 1st of the month of your use year.

So if you had the July UY and wanted your vacation to start on July 1 then yes, your scenario would apply for that vacation.

technically, your pts are already there.

go online and look at your member account. i can see my pts through 2014. they are already there in my account.

(but sure, you are limited in only being able to move pts 1 year forward or back with banking and borrowing.)

so with an april UY, you can call 11 months ahead for your home resort and book april 1, 2012 on may 1, 2011 using banked 2011 pts + current 2012 pts + borrowed 2013 pts (if needed).

in your july example, yes, you could call on august 1 of the previous year to book a reservation starting july 1st. (except that there is not actually a july UY.)

What has been easiest for me is to first just figure out what UY I will be traveling. Once I know that, then I know I can "pay" for my trip using points that were banked from the UY prior to travel, points from the UY of travel, and borrow points from the UY after the travel.

With an April UY, yes, you can borrow 2013 UY points since your trip falls in your 2012 UY.
