Borrowing pts then needing less...

Hi all! I've been away for a little while on the boards. We finally moved, holidays are here, and everything has just been nuts. I just realized I have to call on Monday to book our vacation for next years holidays lol.

So I hopefully have a quick question. I know when you borrow pts they cannot be banked after being borrowed. So I'm good on that.

We are looking at possibly borrowing pts from 2012 for our vacation in Nov/Dec 2011 trip. The thing is we're hoping to call at the 7 month mark to change our reservation to a different resort. I know we don't have much of a chance in getting Bay Lake, but one can hope right lol. Anyway... Bay Lake would be 5 less pts then the reservation we'd have. So... if we do get Bay Lake what happens to the 5 pts. Do we just get 5 of our use year pts back or are they just magically gone? I was figuring that yeah I borrowed pts, but they would put the borrowed ones to the new reservation and the regular use year pts would come back to us.

Now I know that situation sounds good in my head and is probably not correct so I figured I'd ask everyone here if they knew. Honestly we'll be happy with whatever we have so even if we can't get the Bay Lake ressie it's no biggie. We were just wondering if it happened to be that we could what would happen if we had to many pts when we borrowed.

Did this make sense? I hope so lol. Any help is always greatly appreciated!!

There are two possibilities.

1) They will return 5 borrowed points to your current use year that will need to be used before the end of the use year -or-

2) (And this is what should happen, assuming it isn't waitlisted) The new reservation is made, using the borrowed points first. 5 current use year points are returned to your account. Assuming you are still within the banking window, these points can be banked.

If you are waitlisted, and the waitlist comes through, the computer doesn't use the borrowed points first. If this is the case, call Member Services and ask them to reallocate the points so that the borrowed points are used, and current points are returned to your account.

We just did this in a modified way - your way is MUCH easier than what we had to do. We told the CM on the phone that we wanted to use the borrowed points first, then we banked the extra (5 in your case) points into our next year's use year.

It shouldn't be a problem; check your points online once the transaction has been made. If there is a problem, you call back and someone can fix it and make it right.
