Borrowing points on a brand new purchase

Well, the papers have been signed and sent back. It's all paid for, thanks to my new Disney Visa (with the 0% interest for six months). I was told that everything will be "official" sometime in June. We bought 150 points. I was looking at the II places to exchange and we want to go to Aruba next June, staying at the Marriott Ocean Club (anyone have any info about this place? Or is there somewhere else we should be thinking about staying?). Anyway, we will be missing the mid season dates by two days and will have to use 160 points for a week's stay, which means I will have to borrow 10 points. Can I do this now or do I have to wait until everything is officially recorded? I only have temporary cards.

You will have to wait until after closing to borrow the points. What are the dates on the 160 points. High Season for Aruba is week 51-16 (some say week 18). That's Xmas to April. The rest of the time should be mid season at most, if not DVC is ripping you off. You can likely rent a 1or 2 BR there for less than $1000-1200, maybe even less for a 1 BR for next summer. The Marriott is the top option, especially through II. Air Fare can be a killer but you may be able to get some specials now. There are currently 1 BR units online for June but nothing for July.

hi sharon, sorry for the late reply, i'm only just catching up on the DIS after just coming home from WDW.

anyway, i'm not sure about your exact details, which use year you were looking to borrow from/into etc.
but, i know that you actually can do some limited banking and borrowing transactions even before you close on a new purchase (direct from Disney).

this was a new change in the rules, and took effect in March of this year.
you can reference this thread for more details.

but basically, you are allowed to bank current points into your next Use Year. and you are allowed to borrow points from 1 Use Year ahead.

if you are in your 2002 UY right now, you can borrow from your 2003 UY points.
if you are in your 2003 UY now, you can borrow from your 2004 UY points.
however, if you are in your 2002 UY and would like to borrow some 2004 UY into your 2003 UY, that is not allowed until you have officially closed (deed recorded).
