Borrowing points and putting them back

I currently have a one bedroom BWV ressie. As most of you know, I now need a two bedroom which I am waitlisted for. I am, however, flexible enough to go to another resort.

So, I find BLT for one week AFTER DVC closes today. I guess the question is what would you do?

I can borrow the points and book BLT and then tomorrow cancel the BWV when DVC opens. But then, my 2013 points have now become 2012 points by virtue of borrowing. It is an April use year. By what date to I have to use those 2012 points? I don't think I can put them back. Can I?

I'm so messed up. Please help my poor old brain.

You can cancel an existing reservation on-line, then book the new one. Beware, the other villa may go away before you get the cancel done.

Cancel BWV online, then use those points to book BLT. If you borrow, the points will expire at the end of the UY into which they were borrowed.

Once the points are borrowed, they will remain in the new UY. You can bank current points into the next UY to replace the ones you borrowed (but note that they could only be banked once, so they will expire at the end of the next UY).

I think I need two more sets of hands. I have another computer. Cancel one -- book the other immediately Oh ya -- I need two brains too!

I guess it will all work out. Thanks for your responses.

You can also borrow for the first reservation and bank the points from the existing reservation after you cancel it (unless those points are already banked).

actually if you grab the room then you have 20mins before it releases back out...so grab the 2bedroom, then open a new tab, go to your current reservations, cancel the 1bedroom, and then go back and refresh the 2bedroom page and the points should be available with the room still held for you.

Wow, tricky, tricky. :thumbsup2 How did you ever figure out the 20 minute release?

Ooooooh! I was wondering if opening a new tab would work to cancel the existing reservation. Have you tried doing this before and it's worked?

it has worked for me before.

I've also done it while on the phone with MS and then we had to wait it out for a while until it released back into their system, so I know once it's held there, it's held for a while.

I tried that once, but it didn't work for me.
Member Services was open, so I called them, and got it done, though it took a little longer than expected. She had to put me on hold, and have "someone in the back help her". I just figured she was fairly new. Whoever she was talking with told her members cannot do that, can only be done through member services, and even then it takes 2 CMs--one to hold it, and another to cancel the first reservation. Only then can the new reservation be booked. Her "supervisor" told her they cannot hold one while canceling another.
I haven't tried again since.

This does not work unless you are on a computer with a different IP adress. Once you open Memeber services in a new browser it releases your other browser. Trust me, cancelled a room whie holding one and lost both:teacher:

Yep and the held room might not release right away

Has anyone tried using their smartphone to cancel while the other room is on hold on your computer?

I've done it before so it's worked for me and yes it takes a while for the room to release. That's the good thing about it. You just have to refresh the screen until it releases. It's not available for anyone to take, not even MS when it's in that holding state.

One of the rooms it held for more than an hour before releasing it so that may be what happened to you. It just held it way longer than it was supposed to and you thought it was gone.

Wow. It all becomes so technical. I suppose you could do the 20 minute hold if you had two computers and two people working side by side.

But I did call member services and ask the question re canceling one and picking up the other and got pretty much the same response: "That's something we need to do for you." I, too, have gotten the "I need to talk to my supervisor" response as well. I think it all depends on who you get on the phone. My theory: Call back until you get what you want. You know the story: "If mom says no, ask dad."

So, I check the website multiple times a day hoping that this will all come together. It's frustrating, but I don't know if there is any other way to do this. The last CM I talked to said what is online is in "real" time. So there ya go.

Since you're up at 2am, try it then, when there's less traffic. Also, a question for the technical people out there. It seems to me that I've done something similar (NOT DVC though) by using two different browsers (say, Firefox and Safari). Is that treated like two different IP addresses?
