Borrowing from next years' points

I have a question - When can I borrow from the following year's points? Is it when my use year rolls-in?

For example, if I need to borrow from 2019 and my use month is April, do I need to wait to make a reservation April 2018 to borrow from 2019?

You don't have to wait for your UY to start. As long as you have points that can be borrowed, you can borrow them to make a reservation that falls in the prior UY.

If the reservation will take place during your 2018 UY, you can borrow from 2019 when you go to make the reservation.

No, it doesn't work that way.

If you are making a reservation that takes place in your 2018 UY then you can use banked 2017 points, current 2018 points or borrow 2019 points. But you can make that reservation and borrow the 2019 points if needed anytime from 11 months from check in for your home resort or 7 months from check in for a non-home resort.
