Borrowing and using Points Question

Hi everyone:

We've been DVC members for a year or so now, and have a quick question about borrowing points. Here's the situation:

We have an April use year, and would like to book at our home resort (BCV) for this coming October (F&W Festival). We would be using borrowed 2008 points, which would be available to us when we actually use the reservation.

The issue is the reservation timing. Could we reserve now, planning on borrowing the points when they are available to us (in April), and using them in October? I don't really want to wait until April to make the reservation, as we will then be in the 7 month window for an October BCV reservation.

You can make that reservation right now and borrow the points from your '08 UY into your '07 UY to "pay" for it. You can make a reservation at your home resort 11 months prior to your checkout date regardless of your Use Year and regardless of whether you are using banked, current or borrowed points for the reservation. So you should call to make that reservation ASAP because F&W is very popular and your booking window has been open for 2 months already. You will be able to borrow the points for that reservation when you call. Just remember that borrowing is a final transaction. Once you borrow the points into your '07 UY, they cannot be put back into '08 even if you ended up cancelling this reservation for some reason. Once borrowed, the points will expire on Mar 31, '08 if not used.

This is a common misconception. Some people think of the points as being "deposited" into their account on the first day of the use year. This is not true. If you look at "my points" on the DVC website, they have points through the 2009 use year showing in your account.

Your 11 month booking window has past by a couple of months already, so best to call ASAP! Remember booking has NOTHING to do with your use year, only your check out date.
