I have a December UY but I want to book a May vacation with the 7 month window. I have some banked points from 2009, but I'll have to use some from 2010, so those will have to be borrowed if I book in October (7 months), right? The problem is that I'm not 100% sure how long we want to stay, so what will happen if I cancel a few nights after borrowing those points? Can those 2010- borrowed points be banked after being borrowed if I don't use them all? Thanks!

Points are used based on the dates of the reservation, not when the reservation is made. A stay during May 2011 would occur during your 2010 UY so you don't have to borrow your 2010 points to use them.

A May 2011 stay could use December 2009 banked, 2010 current or 2011 borrowed. All those points are currently in your account for use based on the date of stay. Once banked or borrowed, they cannot be returned to the original use year.

You are currently in your Dec 2009 UY. A May 2011 trip will fall in you Dec 2010 UY. Hopefully, you banked your Dec 2009 points before Aug 1. You'll be using your banked Dec 2009 points and your current Dec 2010 points.

A Dec UY is always a bit confusing because it falls so late in the calendar year.

Rule to follow: to determine which use year points you will use and whether you need to bank or borrow, erase from your mind the day you call to reserve and look at only the time you will actually be at WDW. For you any trip betwen Dec 1, 2010, and Nov 30, 2011 will be in your Dec 2010 use year and points you get Dec 1, 2010, will be the "current" use year points for that trip; those from Dec 1, 2009, you would have to bank. You can always call 11 months (home resort) or 7 months (other resorts) in advance and day you call has nothing to do with whether you need to bank or borrow.
