Borrowed Points

Why is it that Disney will not let you return your borrowed points if you cancel a vacation. I can understand if it is near the end of your use year but let say your use year is in Oct and you cancel in may, what would it hurt if you put your borrowed points back. I mean they are your points.

But it is Disney's rules. What would it hurt, most likely nothing.

my guess is they want to immediately start booking next years excess capacity for cash or exchanges

I think they want to discourage people from holding rooms they are not sure they will keep.

There is also a provision in the DVC rules that says they can suspend banking and borrowing if the system is too far out of balance. If they allowed borrowed points to be returned, it would be hard to determine the status.
