Looking for Christian music gurus!!

I just heard the best song on the christian radio station when I was driving home. I've never heard it before, so I'm wondering if it's newer (or I could just be out of the loop)

I don't remember much about it, but I think part of the refrain was "Rest my child..." It sounded like a duet between a man and a woman. It was a tender, sweet song, not a rock/pop sound...and I think it was about a woman who was going through trials, etc. talking to the Lord.

Does anyone have any idea what song this is?????

Nope, that was a couple of weeks back. Jamie (my friend) did great. It was her first time in the pulpit and there were approx 200 people attending, so she was a bit nervous at first, but she gave a really inspirational sermon about fighting the good fight, staying the course and finishing the race. (2 Timothy 4:7-8). At the end of the sermon, she showed a video that alternated between pictures of olympic atheletes and pictures of members of our church working in our various community service project and ministries.

It was a very touching sermon, and it was made even more so by the fact that Jamie had been fighting in inoperable brain tumor for the last 4 years. She has been told on several occasions that she didn't have long to live, but she keeps defying the predictions. The last few years have been very rough for her, but she is still one of the most service oriented Christians I have ever met. Here is a person who has every right to focus on herself and her own problems, and yet she continues to offer her life in service to others. When ever there is a need, whether it be helping with the local food pantry, assistance with our anual coat drive, teaching a sunday school class or any one of the other services we offer to our church and our community, Jamie is always first in line to offer to help. She is a powerful speaker, a wonderful person and an inspiration to us all.

WDWHound isn't it wonderful that our Godi's bigger and more powerful than any disease! What a testimony to the power of God in her life! I'm glad that my God does the impossible! I will lift her up in my prayers.

We had a visiting pastor yesterday as Silent Word Ministries was having a graduation ceremony for some of those students attending a deaf college. It was also fifth Sunday which at our church, that means loads of food after the morning service followed by an afternoon service. The graduation ceremony was during the afternoon service and was a blessing. We also dedicated our new youth building yesterday.

The pastors sermon was on being clean before God. Talked about how we can't lose our salvation but how we still need to confess wrong in our lives as the Holy Spirit troubles us about it.

We went downtown later in the afternoon and let the kids play in the new Passage area (water play area) and then went through the new aquarium building. It is so nice to have a membership so we can do this whenever. Dan Landrum was outside the aquarium playing the dulcimer....I really would like to learn to play one of those......every time I hear one it reminds me of Rich Mullins. We went for some Ben & Jerry's before heading back up to the parking garage to go home. I had chocolate therapy....YUMMY!

Was just wondering....does anyone elses church do fifth Sunday dinner on the grounds? Every month that has a fifth Sunday....on that Sunday we all bring food enough for your own family, plus a little extra......it is always a great time of fellowship.

We also have breakfast every Sunday morning provided free from 9:00-10:00. Usually is biscuits & gravy, pancakes, fruit....sometimes breakfast burritos.....and sometimes my favorite......chocolate chip pancakes.

During the school year and Awana and Word of Life programs on Wednesday we have dinner before the service.....it is $2 for adults, $1 for kids and includes your meal, drink, and dessert. Makes it easier on us working folks to get dinner and to church on time and hey, where else can you feed a family of four for $6?????

How about everyone else? What do you do at your church?

I missed you guys! The thread was slow for a couple of days, but it looks like it then exploded and I missed a lot.

Albertan Mom, my prayers are with you for the insurance estimate. My parents had a sewer pipe burst in their house, which flooded the whole downstairs, ruining the custom hardwood floors that the previous owner had put in. Let’s just say it wasn’t cheap to fix, but insurance did cover a big portion of it. I think they actually covered the entire part that affected the inside of the house, just not the repair work to the pipe on the outside. House repairs can be such a pain!

Hound, when is your church’s annual coat drive? We might have a few we could send. My mom has one that’s so ugly we wouldn’t even give it away though!

live4Christ, chocolate chip pancakes! Wow! No, the only thing our church has is complimentary coffee in between the services. Lots of the Sunday School classes do bring treats every Sunday though. My parents’ class has this one lady that always goes way overboard when it’s her turn—homemade everything and in abundance! Everyone likes it when it’s her turn. We do have Wednesday night dinners, but I can’t get there in time for those from my job. I think they are reasonably priced so seniors and families can afford them.

Our church has a cafe that's open on Weds. for light dinner
before church, reasonably priced.
But, I'd sure love some choco-chip pancakes once in a while

We finished up our studies on the book of Judges! Wow! I never realized all
that was in it. Mostly I had only heard about Sampson and Delilah. We are going to have a special prayer meeting next Sunday before church to pray for
our country and it's leadership, our service men and women and whatever else God lays upon our hearts. We do this about every 1 -2 months.

Every few monthes we have a Bits n Bites luncheon, but that is mostly for the new people. I wish we had more. Not a huge potluck fan, but like buns, meat, cheese etc... and all the desserts!!
We have dessert nights about once a year.

We don't have alot going on. We have a very young church, so many people are so busy with kids activities, that sometimes the adults miss out on fellowship with each other. We get together as a small group for bbq's, weiner roasts, pizza nights and stuff quite often though.
Sigh, I miss my friends, they have all been on holidays, and we keep missing each other!

We usually hold this in September. We would be honored to be able to help pass your coats on to those who need them, however I might be able to save you some shipping costs. We give our coats to the local Coats for Kids Campaign. There is almost certainly a Coats for Kids Campaing near you who would be very happy to redistribute your coats. I could help you find on if you like. Don't get me wrong, we would would delighted to receive you coats, I just thought I'd save you the money on shipping.

Along the lines of donations......has anyone else here participated in Shoes for Orphan Souls. We have done this the last couple of years and the day they have the collection at our local Moody radio station DS and I usually go over after school and help them collect and stack them. The first year it clouded up to rain and we had to bring in all the shoes from outside the station (they were building a bridge with them). DS was in Kindergarten and he carried and carried and carried shoes. Every time they mention it on the radio he remembers that.

We havea cafe that is open before and after all services. Everything is reasonably priced and there is GREAT coffee. It is also open for lunch during the week. Some groups hold breakfasts, lunches and dinners. My church is HUGE so it's difficult to the potluck thing, I don't think there is enough room for everyone to eat at one time. LOL

I participate in Operation Christmas Child. I love putting the shoeboxes together.

Okay--so we started homeschooling and for religion we are using the Golden Children's bible. We read the story--and then DD illustrates and retells.

So excuse my novice confusion.....

We are reading about Cain and Able. Eve is the mother of ALL living things. I thought they were the first humans. Cain kills his brother--God is upset with him..he leaves to a neighboring land and marries. Now if Eve is the mother of ALL living things....where did Cain's wife come from?

This is my first adventure into the Bible as a whole and first from a Bible geared towards children. So I've never studied these stories before.
