I would have to say my Dad, because even when he was sick and dying he never blamed God and was always strong in his beliefs. He felt he needed to be the good example of the family leader as described in the Bible. In fact he worked until about three months before he died because providing for his family was so important to him.

A friend of the family sang this at his funeral (I picked it out). It took me over 10 years before I could listen to it again.

Your dad sounds like a wonderful perspon and has left you with a wonderful testomony and memory.

Please do not go away. Do not let one person dictate the tone of the thread. I know that I am not alone when I say that we enjoy your input, your thoughts, your feelings and your knowledge. You gals and guys add a lot to this thread. :goodvibes
Mel
My thoughts exactly. Your input, which is always polite and respectful, is much appreciated. :)

I am going to be perfectly blunt, as that is the type of person I am. You cannot segregate threads on the DIS. Anyone is free to post to any thread. And the more you try to create a niche, the more it will draw other people. It's great that as Christians that we can get together and discuss things, but it is also great to get input from others as well. As much as there are those who feel we need to seperate ourselves from the rest of the world, we still need to live in that world. What good is it to just shine our light among ourselves?

And acrucifer, thank you for your apology, but we aren't the ones you need to apologize to.

I disagree, respectfully. I did need to apologize to everyone. and I have already spoke to jenny, thanks.

Miss Jasmine, that is a beautiful song. Your father sounds like such a wonderful man. I know you look forward to seeing him again.

The people that had the most impact on my walk with Christ would be my parents. I am so blessed to have grown up in a Christian home where I learned about Jesus from birth. My parents’ lives also show what Christian marriage and parenting is supposed to be like. They are blessings in my life, and I realize this even more now than I did as a child. One of the things I am most thankful for is their sacrifice to send me to a Christian school. I made lifelong friends, and grew so much in my knowledge and relationship with Christ. If there is any way we can do it, my husband and I hope to send our children to the same school when we have kids.

Hey Elisabeth,

Your words here encouraged me so much, just wanted to share that with you. We work very hard to send DS to Christian school and DD will start not this school year but next. While the teaching and training is very important......I also like the fact that these kids are growing up together DS has been with many of them since K4 and they are all close, they are buddies, etc. and even though DS birthday is in the summer, many of his school mates turn out for his birthday party. We have got to know some of the parents too and it has been a joy. I get discouraged sometimes and it was nice to hear your words of appreciation for your parents sacrifice to send you to Christian school. Thanks!

Thanks so much! Yes, I made lifelong friends at my school too. As a matter of fact, one of them is my best friend to this day, and we were both maids of honor in each other’s weddings. I also had several friends that attended that school from kindergarten through 8th grade, and we all felt like family. The song by Michael W. Smith that says, “Friends are friends forever, if the Lord’s the Lord of them” really echoes my sentiments.

Most Inpact on my life as a christian:

By far has to be my high school youth group leaders: Jeanne and Mike, Jerry and Nancy, Bob and Lori, Greg and Christie

These people showed me that being a christian could be sooo much fun!! :goodvibes

They took me to Word of Life Bible camp, encouraged me to go on international missions trips, held the most A-MAZ-ING youth group sessions ever....

I was just one kid out of many that they touched...I wonder if they know how much they meant to me...I don't know where they all are now, but I'll be sure to tell them when we get to Heaven!!

Does anyone know the song "Thank you for Giving to the Lord?"

A Christian friend is a blessing forever. When I first got saved, I was going through a lot of personal trials. A lot of my so called friends dropped me, even though I had been there for them. Several of the older ladies of tht church encourage me, invited me places;prayed for me and made me feel welcome without ever trying to pry into what was wrong. For 24 years I have been blessed with the love and caring of these women. I have tried to be an example to others because of the many blessing I have received from being their friend. You never know what burdens others are carrying; a smile, a kind word or a hug can do wonders!

Ok, so I've had a question that's been bouncing around in my head for you guys. How old is the world? I know some of you defer on this one and I'm genuinely curious to know your answer.

Hey Joy,

My DH & I are Word of Life workers with our teen group, they have been to WOL camp at Schroon Lake once, and also to the one in Florida.

Here's the song you mentioned:

Thank You - By: Ray Boltz

I dreamed I went to heaven
And you were there with me;
We walked upon the streets of gold
Beside the crystal sea.
We heard the angels singing
Then someone called your name.
We turned and saw a young man running
And he was smiling as he came.

And he said, "Friend you may not know me now."
And then he said, "But wait,
You used to teach my Sunday School
When I was only eight.
And every week you would say a prayer
Before the class would start.
And one day when you said that prayer,
I asked Jesus in my heart."

Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am so glad you gave.

Then another man stood before you
And said, "Remember the time
A missionary came to your church
And his pictures made you cry.
You didn't have much money,
But you gave it anyway.
Jesus took the gift you gave
And that's why I'm here today."

Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am so glad you gave.

One by one they came
Far as the eye could see.
Each life somehow touched
By your generosity.
Little things that you had done,
Sacrifices made,
Unnoticed on the earth
In heaven, now proclaimed.

And I know up in heaven
You're not supposed to cry
But I am almost sure
There were tears in your eyes.
As Jesus took your hand
And you stood before the Lord.
He said, "My child, look around you.
Great is your reward."

Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am so glad you gave.

Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am a life that was changed.
Thank you for giving to the Lord.
I am so glad you gave.

Yep, this one can turn into a big debate, even among Christians. I personally believe that the earth isn't anywhere close to as old as the scientist would have us believe......maybe 6,000 years or a little more give or take. I believe in Genesis Chapter one when God says that the evening and the morning were the first day.........is actually one 24 hour period. Some will speculate and say that one day could have been millions of years but IMO if it was important enough for God to specify from the morn & evening it must be literal. I hold to the big bang theory.......God spoke and BANG it was.....and so it shall be at the end. The Bible says in the end times that out of Christs mouth will come a sharp two edged sword....that would be The Word of God.

One of my favorite speakers (not a lot of people like this guy and there are lots of web sites bashing him) that I have had the benefit of hearing and also watching his seminars is Kent Hovind and you can find him at www.drdino.com
He has lots of interesting info on his site. Probe ministries also has a lot of good information, http://www.probe.org/

Just my own honest opinion on this from what I gather from the Bible and the inconsistences in science that would have us believe differently.

Yup! That's the song...(crying now) It gets me everytime. :goodvibes

I'm going to see if I can go download it on my ipod.

Great memories of WOL snow and summer camps at Schroon Lake. I joined a church where I live now purposely b/c I knew they participated in WOL camps with their youth...I hope I can give my kids the same youth group experiences I had.

Interesting question!!!

While I will, for the most part, defer, I will say this... I have NO belief or faith in what science puts forth. ( I have EVERY faith in God....)

Here is one example... All of this billions and billions and billions of years, and the Jurassic period, and 'this' period and 'that' period, and evolution, etc... can all be thown in the trash by ONE amazing find... Right here in the United States there are huge Dinosaur footprints and very detailed Human footprints, fossilized, right in stride, in the SAME stone.

Ok, so why 6,000 years give or take? Forgive my ignorance, but where did this number come from?

And why no faith in scientists? I like to think that God has given mankind the wisdom and intelligence to make great discoveries and inventions. I also like to think that God created mankind with an inate sense of wonder, imagination and curiousity, which sets us apart from most other creatures on this planet. That "need to know" about the world around us has brought so many amazing discoveries, one of which is the history of this planet and all its' residents past and present. God created us all in His image, I would think He'd have included intelligence, wisdom, etc... for a purpose, i.e. not to question Him but to question the world around us that He created. I also like to think that our discoveries would please Him and make Him smile. Much like a parent to a child.

Again, not a debate, just genuine curiousity that you would think this way (you meaning the collective you, not singling anyone out).

I love this song too. When I was in middle school a group of us were taught to do the song in sign language, and we did it for the church’s mission day. It’s such an incredible statement. That is my goal in life—to take as many people to heaven with me as I can.

I'll be honest, I have no clue about the Earth's age. I guess it's some thing I haven't really thought about.

I wonder about the dinosaurs. There was no mention of them in the Bible, yet we know they existed. :confused3

Hi everyone! I was raised Southern Baptist and I have accepted Jesus, but I have not been officially Baptized. I have been waiting for everyone in my family, my boyfriend, friends, etc. all to be in town so I can do it. It is quite a chore to round up all those folks. :teeth:

IIRC, the Earth is about 2.5 billion years old and the universe is around 15 billion. I have absolutely no problem with resolving my faith with scientific data. In point of fact, many particle physicists believe in God, too. However, it should be noted, that their belief is in a being that created the universe and not necessarily a "personal" God.
