I just finished One Tuesday morning and Beyond Tuesday morning - excellent!!! :thumbsup2

Good Morning everyone! I just wanted to pop in and say hi. Welcome to all our new members! :sunny:

Hi all! Welcome to all you new members! It is great to have you all here!

Please pray for us, we need a miracle, DD had to have oral surgery (she had broken one of her teeth) and it hit us pretty hard, we need to come up with about $4000 in the next two weeks.

I have read all of the "Case for.." books by Stroebel. Good stuff. Just finished Blue Like Jazz. Didnt care for that. Also just read Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges and Knowing God by JI Packer. Good stuff.

BTW. Peter didnt write Revelation (no "s")

Cristy, I will say a prayer that God will provide a way to pay your oral surgery bills. Will the surgeon's office not let you do some sort of payment plan?

Hi Elisabeth,

Thanks for your prayers. We actually paid the dentist, hospital and anesthesiologist bill up front (our share that insurance didn't cover), but in order to do so we had to use the money we had set aside for tuition, school books, etc., which has to be paid by August 14th with school being August 16th.

Karen Kingsbury is my very favorite author!!
I love the Baxter series, as well as all her other books. One Tuesday Morning and Beyond Tuesday Morning were about 9/11 and were very very good also. All her books are great. I have read them all and am now on the waiting list for her newest ones!

I also enjoy Francine Rivers, Lori Wick, Karen Ball, and especially Lynn Austin.
Just finished "All She Ever Wanted" by Lynn Austin, it was great.

Christian fiction! I would love to talk about this. I love to read and I've really enjoyed reading christian fiction but I find sometimes I find it is so hit or miss. I'll buy a book thinking I'm going to love it and then it's just so so. I hate that.

I bought One Tuesday Morning and I didn't finish reading it b/c the topic of 9/11 is still so raw. I thought I'd be able to read it, but then I started getting into it and I had to put it down. This was last year. Maybe I should give it another try.

Here are some titles I've LOVED:This Present Darkness by Peretti
Piercing the Darkness by Peretti
Left Behind (only the 1st three books) by Jenkins/La Haye
Eli (forgot the author)
What a Girl Wants series by Billerbeck (a little fluffy but fun)

Here are some So So titles:Anything else by Peretti except the two mentioned above (I've read all his books)
The rest of the Left Behind Series (I finished the series out of obligation, but they got worse and worse.)
The Yada Yada Prayer Group first two books

And funny, I can't remember the titles of the books I hated, but there was one by Ted Dekkar that was so awful I couldn't believe I had wasted my money. I'm really leary to try anymore of his books. I just read House though that he wrote with Peretti and I didn't care for it, I only read it b/c Peretti's name was on the cover.

There was another book about an Amish girl who's parents were keeping a secret about her "dead" boyfriend, and her birth story...I didn't finish that one either.

Any opinions on the books Love Comes Softly or Love's Enduring Promise? I just saw these movies and the third in the series on the Hallmark channel and LOVED them! I'm wondering if I should buy the books and read them, but I'm afraid since I already know the story I won't enjoy them as much. I know there are more in the series...is this worth my time???

Thanks
Joy

:wave2: Hi all. This is my first time posting here on this thread. It sure has a lot of pages for me to have never noticed it before. But I'm glad I found you all now. It's nice to know there are other Christians here!!!

Yes, I also enjoy Beverly Lewis Amish series. They are sometimes a little hard to get into, but I like them. I find it very interesting reading about a lifestyle so different from my own!

we just got back from our road trip to hhi and i got to say we felt the hand of God on us as we traveled. our first night we stopped in alabama, and dw had noticed earlier that our bike rack was leaning, i checked and it was cracked at one of the welds, i can only say that God was holding the rest of it on.

went and bought a new one at walmart and we went on to atlanta and 6 flags, made it to hhi the next day and the truck made a noise, and then a different noise the next day, so i went to the desk and english made a call to her car guy, and he said to come over that afternoon, i told him what kind of noise it was, since it didn't make the noise anymore, of course. i told him that i saw some black buildup near the belt, and he looked and said that he couldn't understand why the belt was still on, because the tensioner pulley had disintegrated and the belt was only hanging onto the spindle. he fixed it up in about an hour and was fair with the price. so now we really thanked God for safe trip. it was good to be able to let the kids know that God cares for us like that.

the rest of the trip was pretty uneventful, only a battery rundown ovdernight the last night, when the electric cooler was left plugged in. but the hotel maintenance man jumped us off and we hit the road for home.

God is so good.

Joy, I haven't read much Christian fiction, but I did enjoy the Left Behind series. I agree with you that the first books were better than the later books though. I must say that I did enjoy the last book too.

Cristy, my prayers are with you that the tuition money will be provided. I know that it means a lot to you to put your kids in the school you do, and I know that God knows your needs.

pogopossum, it is so neat to see God's hand in the everyday problems we encounter, providing help and protection. I hope that the rest of your vacation was uneventful so you could enjoy time with your family and relax. I've been to HHI several times--it's a wonderful place for a relaxing trip!

Good morning everyone. Could I please ask for prayers for my father in law? He is in the hospital and they are trying to figure out what is wrong. He has had leukemia for the past 5 years...but his blood count is great right now so they don't think it is that.

His heart is enlarged and he has fluid in his lungs along with quite a few other symptoms. They have tossed the words *possible stomach cancer, or colon cancer or congestive heart* failure at us.

He'll be having quite a few tests today to try and figure this out. He is a wonderful man that has had a huge Christian, loving influence on me and my family and we love him TONS. Say a prayer for him for us.

transparent, your FIL and your family are in my prayers. I will pray that it is something very treatable and not life-threatening. The waiting must be very difficult, so I will pray for peace and comfort for all of you as well.

Transparent, I will pray that the Lord will give the doctors wisdom and that all of you will be strenthened and comforted by Him and the body of Christ!

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers about our school tuition problem. The Lord is so good! Let me tell you what has happened. Tuesday there was a letter from the school about some of the things going on, updating about lunch, lockers, etc. There was a section that said there would still be after school care but that they were still in need of an after school care director from 3:15 - 5:30 M-F. Now my hours here are 8:00 - 4:30 M-F and I have another job that is Friday & Saturday from about 5:00 PM to midnight. So I thought well maybe I can get them to let me change my hours here so I talked to my boss and he said that should be okay 6:30 AM - 2:45 PM and then go do after school care. I called the school administrator, who was my DS 1st grade teacher and she was so excited, she said, "you don't even have to come for an interview, I'll go ahead and fill out the paperwork." So I'll get a chunk of a discount on the tuition plus I'm going to have them just roll whatever my little bit of salary might be right into the balance so that should take care of a good bit of it so that we will be able to manage. My other part time job I might have to drop a day or change my hours on Friday by an hour, still trying to work that out.

DH will have to get the kids up, breakfast (which I plan to leave them something that is ready), dressed and dropped off. His office is moving so he will be going right by the school anyway.

Just pray for us now that we can find some balance. As of right now along with what is mentioned above, my DH works full time and is on call every three weeks. We just took on the 7th & 8th grade Sunday school class on Sunday morning. We are still involved with the Jr. Church service during the morning service on Sunday. Wednesday nights we will be doing WOL with the teens. We are den leaders for our DS Weblos den. I'm the chairperson for the dens popcorn sale (which is coming up soon, BTW) and the Cherokee Area Council just recruited me to be the John Ross District Chairperson.

Just remember--don't be scared to say 'no' to some things. I took on way too many things a few years ago, because I figured Christians had to serve, and if I didn't do it, who would? I had way too much on my plate, that I didn't have time to make decent meals, or spend time with my family properly. Don't get guilted into doing to much and run yourself down! With two jobs, and all those commitments, it would be very easy to get burned out quickly!
And don't forget you need time for yourself too! And quality time with your DH! :cloud9: :goodvibes
