boredom on cruises for adults

My husband and I do not have children yet and are planning a Disney cruise next year. I know there are LOTS of activities for children onboard, but what about adults?

Also, is there gambling? Also, we're not smokers but were wondering if we'll have to contend with smoke onboard. Is smoking allowed?

Thanks!

Be sure to go to the following website and read the many trip reports from an adult only cruising perspective at Barb and Tony's website. They have been on over 20 cruises to date with DCL and lots more booked!
www.castawayclub.com

On the above website and also www.dcltribute.com you can view sample navigators to see the abundance of adult activities that are scheduled throughout the day.

There is not any gambling on DCL (except for jackpot Bingo). But the Wonder stops in Nassua where there are casino's and the Magic's eastern itinerary stops in St.Maarten where there are casino's. I've never been on the Western but I would imagine that they would have places with casino's also.

Smoking is not allowed in any dining rooms or staterooms. As well as no smoking a some of the lounges. Smoking IS allowed on private verandahs as well as most clubs/lounges such as Rock in Bar D. In the evening it can get very smokey in the bars.

Dh and I do not have children yet and we have cruised 3 times with DCL (no match for Barb & Tony!) :)
We LOVE it and don't have any desire to cruise another line!
There are so many things for adults to do; spa, clubs, wine tasting, pool games, etc. You also MUST try Palo for dinner one night!

Don't worry...you are going to love it!

There is plenty to keep adults busy on the Disney ships!
One area of the ship is basically adults only, with night club acts, a quiet, romantic piano bar... we really enjoyed that. There is a spa with many different treatments to choose from, such as the surial bath.

There is an ESPN sports lounge for those into watching sports.

Of course, there are the ports of call where there is an endless list of activities; snorkeling, sightseeing, etc.

No, there is no gambling on board. Disney ships do not have casinos.

We are not smokers either, and we didn't notice having to contend with smoke. There were a few smokers in the designated areas, but you can walk around them easily enough.
No smoking in the dining rooms, which is nice.

There is also the Art of Entertaining Series and the Behind the Scenes.

There was absolutely TOO much to do- a good excuse to book another cruise!

My boyfriend is taking me on a 7-day land/sea for my birthday next April. We are two adults, no children, and I am REALLY looking forward to this. I feel like I might not have enough time to do everything we want to do.

There's swimming, dining, taking time to relax and enjoy the view, sports, exercise classes, shows, a deck party, night clubs, and character greetings. Not to mention visiting ports of call!

That said, as two adults, you really may want to spring for a room with a verandah. I know my boyfriend and I are enjoying some quiet time to ourselves and do plan to spend time in the cabin, rather than just running in and out as a lot of families with children seem to.

The irony of a DSL cruise is that you can be more child-free (if you wish) than you can on other lines. Other cruise lines do not have adult only pools etc. Everyone shares one pool.

I went solo with my 15 year old daughter. We left the "boys" home (they said they'd rather go fishing). Good move on our part, it gave us more money to shop.

I had NO PROBLEM keeping myself entertained. I never even had time to get into the book I wanted to read. I throughly enjoyed each and every distraction.

After dinner our kids went to the clubs and dh and I did find ourselves a bit bored. You can only go to so many pool parties, bars with dj's etc. Don't get me wrong, we loved our Disney Cruise, but just with there was a bit more for the adults to do. This is just my opinion!

DH and I were on the Western this past July without our kids. Don't worry about not having enough to do. We were so busy, we finally stopped and forced ourselves to play a game of ping-pong which we love to do and couldn't seem to find the time until our last night. You can be as busy or as lazy as you'd like. We didn't use the pool once, didn't spend that much time in our room, yet it seemed like we always had something to do. We still can't figure out how the time passed so quickly. We didn't see children around much at all. At dinner, our rotation seemed to have teenagers and adults only.

We loved it so much we are planning a 4 night next time with the kids. We kind of felt guilty having so much fun without them (not that guilty).

Cruise Disney, you will love it!!!!!!

Kids are not part of the picture here either, and I can guarantee there is NO way you'll be bored! :jester:

Besides the sheduled entertainment, you also have a number of different themed music clubs to go visit, you can go see a movie, there's a number of other entertainments such as a game show, nevermind just enjoying the peace of cruising on the ocean with each other. I definitely say get a verandah for the first one, you can't go wrong. :D

DH & I cruise a couple years ago with our kids and my whole family. We loved it but felt we missed out on so much of the adult stuff. We then cruised again on the July 4th Wonder, just the 2 of us. It was a Wonderful!!!!! A Disney cruise definitely isnt just for kids. Check out my trip report on the trip report board. One post is at the top of the first page and the other 3 are at the bottom of the first page. Hope you have as great a time as we did. ;) Any questions just ask!

As a few people have pointed out, my husband and I are childless, but we have sailed on Disney 23 times now and have numerous additional cruises already booked, including three in a row on the Wonder, starting at the end of this month. We never get tired of it! We think Disney is actually better for adults than RCCL because RCCL does not have adults-only areas (there were supposedly a couple, but there was NO enforcement on Voyager or Radiance). On Disney, if you want to escape from the little ones, head off to the spa, the adult pool, or the adult beach.
I am allergic to smoke, and I rarely have a problem on Disney, except in Rockin' Bar D/Wavebands, as a lot of the non-smoking area in there is right in front of smoking, and the ventilation is bad. About the only thing I'll brave the smoke for in there is the 70's party, which is a blast. But other than that, there is no problem with smoke...just another Disney advantage.

My hubby and I sailed three times without kids and had a blast! There are enough adult activities and adult areas that you don't really have to see kids if you don't want to.

You'll hae a blast!
