Bored with DHS

It's not my favorite park by any means but I don't think that I could ever skip it. It is my least favorite park but, I love RnR and ToT and could never skip those. I usually spend a whole day there and it's just a relaxing day compared to the other parks.

I get your point but don't feel this way at all. I really like ToT, RNR and the most underrated exhibit Walt Disney: One Man's Dream. I will say (this is going to sound odd) but the whole teen vibe at DHS I don't care for. I don't mind the young child for MK but there's something about the teen atmosphere that makes me cringe.

To the bolded: this is exactly why I'm so, so glad that the High School Musical parade got the axe. I don't know why, it just didn't seem to 'fit'.

I don't think I could ever skip DHS, there's just too much I like to do there (ToT, Star Tours, Studio Backlot Tour, RnRC, Fantastmic!, etc), but in all honesty, I've never spent a whole day there. Never done rope drop - I prefer DHS in the afternoon/evening. I usually arrive around late lunchtime, and leave after dinner/Fantasmic. I also really like shopping along Sunset Blvd at DHS, too.

It's never been one of my favorite parks, but I love ToT and TSMM, so could never not go.
I like the dining there......Brown Derby is a favorite, also like Sci Fi and 50's.
Counter service, not so much.
They need to update a lot, like the Great Movie ride.....but I do still go on it.
Always watch Muppets. Tired of Indiana Jones and the car stunt show.
Like Beauty and the Beast.

We enjoy the shows there (except Fantasmic, which we hated), but it's a little hard to tour as it seems half the shows don't have a morning option, and we do a lot of aimless wandering in between shows. On a full-length trip, we wouldn't skip DHS. But, if we were pressed for time, it'd be the first thing cut. It's solidly 6th place for us after the 3 other parks & both water parks.

While we would love to see some additions (more rides!) and improvements (TGMR!) to DHS, it does house three of our families favorite rides in WDW.....ToT, RnR and ST. So we make it our mission to ride these as often as we can on the days we are visiting the park. On our upcoming trip we have ten day park tickets and will do DHS on two days. (5 days at MK, 2 days at EPCOT, 2 days at DHS and 1 day at AK)

I love Hollywood Studios. It has always been my favorite park every since my first visit when I was 8. I think it has the best themed restaurant (Sci Fi) and ride (Tower of Terror) in all of Walt Disney World. That said, it is such a shell of its former self and it does appear to be going through an identity crisis. Once upon a time, it was supposed to be "a Hollywood that never was and always will be." You were supposed to feel as though you entered old Hollywood. You entered the park and felt like you would see Clark Gable or Bette Davis walking down the street. Then, when you went in an attraction, you were supposed to feel as though you were transported into the show or movie. Look at Tower of Terror where you are suddenly in the show, Great Movie Ride where the scenes come to life, or Star Tours where you are flying with R2D2. They also had Superstar Television where you were put into the action, and Backlot Tour that actually was a backlot tour. Now, they have eighty-sixed Superstar television to make way for someone yelling at you to audition for American Idol. They added in some great stuff with Pixar Place, but it doesn't seem to fit. Streets of America is neat to look at, but what do you do there? They seriously need to reevaluate what is going on here.

My advice would be a major overhaul that would make the Fantasyland expansion look minute. First, you change the name. It needs to just be called "The Studios". Inside, you will have 5 sections: Hollywood Studios, Disney Studios, Pixar Studios, Muppet Studios, and Lucas Studios. As you enter the park, you should once again feel as though you are in old Hollywood with all different studios surrounding you. As you enter each area, it needs to be clear what is going on.

Hollywood Studios would contain Sunset and Hollywood Boulevard. It would still have Tower, Rock n Roller Coaster, an Great Movie Ride. Sci Fi would move over here, as would 50's Prime Time. Brown Derby is also important to keep around. I would also look into moving Mama's over here and having the waiters and waitresses sing like they do at Miceli's. Also, I would make sure to keep the streetmosphere performers as I feel they are critical to the feel of the park.

Disney Studios would have Animation Courtyard, Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, One Man's Dream, and Disney Jr, Live on Stage. Hollywood and Vine would move over here and be renamed Rout 66 (travels between Hollywood, Chicago, and near Kansas City, so it encompasses the cities important to Walt), but the theming would be the same. Definitely keep the dining with the Disney Jr. characters. I would add some rides, as well. What rides? I'd add the rides that Walt helped design based on his films that are no longer in the parks. So, Snow White's Scar Adventures, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, and other things like that would be added to this area. I'd add in a quick service restaurant that Clarabell is the owner of.

Pixar Studios would be where it currently is located, as well as expanding past where Backlot Tour currently is (with it no longer being a real working studio, no need for this ride anymore... especially in its current state). Along with what is currently there, we are going to bring some of Disneyland's great pixar rides and attractions. I'd bring in Mike and Sully to the Rescue, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, and a ride similar to Jumpin Jellyfish based on Up. Pizza Planet would need to move over here and I'd add in a table service restaurant that would be Remy's. If we really have the money, I would not hesitate to bring Radiator Springs Racers here, as well, as it is a truly fantastic ride. A kid's play area based on Toy Story would also work well here.

Muppet Studios would be where it currently is and would extend into Streets of America and back through the off stage area. We need a roller coaster based on The Great Gonzo that, like California Screamin' and Rock n Roller Coaster, starts off fast. But you are shooting through a cannon like Gonzo does! Sweedish Chef would get a restaurant and Gonzo and Rizzo would have a pizza and pasta quick service restaurant. A Muppets in Space ride would also be a nice addition.

Lucas Studios would be where Indy and Star Tours currently are and they would certainly be kept. A Cantina restaurant is a must and would be counter service. Maybe we could keep Sci Fi here and give it a slight American Graffiti theme, but I hate to touch the restaurant since I feel it is so perfect. A family ride based on ET and riding a bicycle through the night sky would be a good attraction. Like Peter Pan's flight, you would be suspended from above so it give the illusion that you are flying. With how popular the Indiana Jones ride is at Disneyland, I think it would be a mistake not to bring it here.

So basically, I think that it needs to be more thought out than it currently is. It is also in dire need of better counter service restaurants. If they can address these things, I think it will go a long way in repairing some of the damage done to the park.

That is how I feel about Animal Kingdom. I can do that park in less than 3 hours. I do Safari, EE, Dinosaur and if it is hot out the River Rapids ride and leave.

While it is my least favorite park, I am always glad to be walking over to the grm. Tsm is way overrated, I hate hate hate the Indiana jones show but love beauty and the beast. The food options need major improving. They need to turn the back streets of America into themed restarants from across the u.s. Have a chicago themed one with hotdogs and pizza, a New York deli, boston for clam chowder, New Orleans for gumbo...etc. That would spark interest in the park I am certain. :goodvibes

I only go to DHS on my solo trips to do the Animation Class and ride Star Tours and ToT. I will also alternate seeing VoTLM and BaTB.

My last solo trip I just did the Animation Class and then went over to Epcot. I'm thinking that is what I will be doing on my September solo trip too.

We did enjoy Star Wars Weekends when we went over Memorial Weekend but that was a special thing and not something we will probably do again.

Until a few years ago CS options left much to be desired ... Since then the CS offerings have improved greatly.

Seriously? Where? And for the record, I agree with the OP; our family decided we'll skip DHS next time.

HS is the single go-to park for my honey and I in all of Orlando if we had to choose just 1 single base day anywhere. Unfortunately, everyone else picked that day too! We never get everything done that we want. I've had to walk past American Idol for YEARS. :( No dice. Haven't seen Indiana in ages, altho caught LMA for the first time last year. Jack Sparrow is literally the worst thing to ever be added to a map especially with the pseudonym 'attraction'. Backlot is same old. We usually try to do several animations each trip, they are great. Always love VotLM, its a must to see a live Ariel! We caught Beauty & The Beast this time, LOOVVE the shade thank you very much! And the show was stellar, updated, and Gaston was WAY WAY outta his league! We always try to catch as many rides on ToT and RnRc (which this year was only 1) and normally we get several on TSMM (this year it was 1 with an 80 min wait at 7:20p) and basically it has everything we look for in a park. Thrills, fast, fun, the atmosphere, etc.

I was going to agree that the food is usually awful but we ate AWESOME this time! Pizza Planet made us fresh made to order gluten free organic pizzas that were SOOO good (better than everyone elses) and had that yummy red pepper packet to put on it. For the first time, I didn't miss Pizzafari (no AK this year) AND didn't have to roll around on the ground after either! :rotfl2: To top it off, we splurged on the Brown Derby Fantasmic package for the first time and the meal was so stupendous, the VIP vouchers were almost a joke compared to the value of the meal, which was stellar AND GF also!

HS is our FAVORITE park ever, but we are going to check out it's half sister California Adventure next!:yay::yay:

and I'd add in a counter service restaurant that would be Remy's.

Just a note that Remy's (named of course from its namesake) is already the highest end French restaurant on any cruise line (DCL of course) at $75 pp in addition to your cruise fare. So making it a QS doesn't seem like it would work with their marketing it the highest end luxury dining experience while making it a quick service (in and out) style as well. For me PizzaPlanet works fine as a QS for your Pixar Park. What about the sushi bar from Monsters? :rotfl:

Teen vibe - very true. Shame on Disney for wanting to do something for teens. Teens don't need a fun, family oriented place to spend time with their parents and sibs...they should all go back to hanging out on the street corners and in the gutter where they belong :sad2:

I agree that it's my least favorite park. However, there's still plenty that I enjoy there:

Toy Story Midway Mania
Beauty and the Beast (my favorite show in any of the parks)
Lights Motors Action (my son's favorite)
Indiana Jones
Muppet Vision
Tower of Terror
Rockin Roller coaster
One Man's Dream
American Idol (I didn't think we'd enjoy this, but we did)
Star Tours
Little Mermaid
Great Movie Ride (good for a nap ;))

Do NOT like Fantasmic - especially when compared to the awesome fireworks of MK and Epcot. As for food, we've only been to Mama Melrose and 50's - like the former, but despised the latter.

Overall, though, we usually allocate about 2 half-days there out of a 8 or 9 day trip that includes water parks.

I agree that the teens take over DHS for sure! (can I still be considered a teen? :rotfl:) but have you seen Tomorrowland at MK?!?!! I think that's where they all congregate after!

As a fellow DHS lover, can I just tell you that you are in for such a treat at DCA? I can't imgaine a DHS lover not adoring that park.:goodvibes

Doh. I meant table service! Off to correct! Thanks.

In my opinion there are several great rides at DHS (Coaster, Star Tours, Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania), the street shows are always fun, and the food is not as bad as all that, if you check around you can find selections that aren't boring or pedestrian.

This thread makes me feel better about my choice to do HS on our MNNSHP day, haha. This is likely to be a 1/4 day park for us. No thrill rides for our young family. And my one year old won't sit for shows unless he's asleep. But we can't miss Playhouse Disney and meeting Sofia and Doc at H&V for lunch. Other than that...TSM, One Man's Dream and The Muppets for dh, and we're outta there.

Also. Carrot cake cookies. :)

My family loves HS. The food is not s terrible as some say either (in our opinion). Quick Service stuff seems so similar throughout all the Disney parks. And we like Mama Melrose and Brown Derby.

I'd say we like it better than Animal Kingdom. That's a half day park for us. The only major attraction there is EE and safari.

I get everyone's point...but I can go to DHS every weekend and not get bored thanks to the Citizens of Hollywood. Best group of improv actors out there. Way better than the Citizens of Main Street.
