Bored with DHS

This is our first time coming to Disney but I'm surprised wtih the comment as there seems like so many great attractions....Muppet 3D, Toy Story, Star Tours, Lights Motor Action show, Little Mermaid, Great Movie Ride, Beauty and the Beast, Studio Backlot Tour, and some neat animation and more adult things. We almost booked 2 days at DHS (with only 5 full days at Disney), but ended up staying with one. We have a son and daughter and certainly can fill our day.

If I knew how to multi-quote I would quote some of the pp's lol. Don't let anyone sway you from planning a full day at HS! As I said a couple pages back, it's my 2nd favorite park after EPCOT. There is definitely enough todo there to fill a day, especially if you have people in your party who can do the thrill rides like TOT and RnRC and are also interested in stuff like character meets and Disney Jr. Live Onstage. We don't have real young ones anymore but still do at least 2.5 days on most trips. This next trip is shorter than usual and we have 1 day in each park, then 1 day extra, and I already know there's going to be an argument-DS12 and I will want to go to HS for a 2nd day while DS8 will want EPCOT or AK! That's how much we like it :goodvibes However I understand people saying if you've done a show once they don't feel the need to do it again. We usually don't do the shows 2 trips in a row but we've done them all more than once.

You mention some "neat animation" in your post. Not sure exactly what you're thinking of there but don't forget the drawing class there! Also if you can, stop and watch Mulch, Sweat and Shears. Music is great and they're lots of fun, too!

We are not tired of DHS, but it is the last of the parks we worry about really. We always go there after we've been to AK on the same day to try to catch either TSM first, then ToT or Rnr w/o a FP which is hopeless and then to see Fantasmic as it is our DHS tradition.

I am wrestling with the idea of getting to DHS at rope drop so we can finally try TSM do which is one I can always skip, but DH and DD6 really want to see it...no matter which vacation we're on getting to DHS after 5pm and trying to get TSM never happens. We been to WDW several times now after the opening of TSM and have yet to nail it.

*sigh*

Anyway, DHS is loved by us, but we always plan for it last.

Dhs is my favorite when I am in the park. I love the era so love looking about. We love indiana jones, and I could ride tot and rnrc All day long. My boys like the stunt show and beauty and the beast always makes me smile. And the brow derby is a tradition. I've never seen fantasmic because our tiing is always off. Toy story is fun, and I like star tours even more now that it has changed.

We'd never schedule less than a day there and sometimes two.

Ummm, I'm going to guess it's because they spend a half of a day there. It's allowed. They won't kick ya out of Disney World for it. I didn't realize every post made on this public message board had to meet your "qualifying" standards. I also didn't realize you were quality control either....

Oh, I didn't see that the first time visitor was confused. Surprised, but not confused. They already said they found plenty to fill their day with.

I could care less if someone spends a half-day or 15 minutes there. But, the post added no value to the conversation. And I find it interesting you throwing a quality control label at me when that's exactly what you're trying to do.

You do understand that they do have OTHER programs? By your premise Pretty Little Liars being on the ABC Family Channel means families are sitting down together watching that show?

Ok, I give up. Teenagers are watching Phineas and Ferb.

Man, you know what? You're right. I was reading this thread and had a comment, but got all distracted by you trolling other threads about the whole "half day" issue you have. Let me make it right, so my post will have value....

I think if it's your first time visiting the park, there is plenty to see to fill a whole day there. Maybe more than a day, depending on how you tour. Absolutely. My boys love it there! But now that we've been a few times, and with having park hoppers, we usually head there one day in the morning, and head out after lunch. We usually do come back another day though, to hit our favorites again (our vacation is usually 7-9 days). I do think it's easier to see more things quicker at DHS, because it's so compact.

I do think they need something new and "fresh" there. I'm not sure what. But I think that about EPCOT also. Maybe it's all the excitement with the new Fantasyland expansion at the MK.......:confused3

Lol new and fresh would be good but I hate to see anything go;) It fits like an old shoe and I love it. When it first opened and there was hardly anything to do we'd sit in the restaurant back by the backlot tours end listen to the piano player...who asked me out.

I totally agree. In fact, I still have a hard time calling it Hollywood Studios. It's always MGM to us! :)

Well, I just read they're taking out American Idol (apparently a rumor from CMs-read it on another board). So maybe they'll put something good in there ;)

Yeah, and they're all shows my 12 year deems too "baby" to watch.

Do you really think the programming on ABC Family is for families to watch together? :confused3

Pretty Little Liars is pretty indicative of the original programming on that channel (Pretty Little Liars, Twisted, The Fosters, Melissa & Joey, Switched at Birth, Baby Daddy). I don't think of any of it as traditional "family" programming.

Edited to say: As I think more about it, I'm kind of interested in this mythical world where 18 year olds watch the Disney Channel and ABC Family is for families to watch together. It sounds like a nice place.

Sorry but you don't read very well...especially sarcasm. My daughters are now 18 & 17 and it's clear you cannot comprehend I said they and there friends watched Disney Channels for 6 years. I'm going to leave this thread cause I don't want to hijack it but will add one last thing. I had a career in broadcast television for over 10+ years and you haven't a clue to the target marketing and demographics of who watches these shows.

Quality of post is a matter of opinion. Sniping at one another is probably only valuable to those who are sniping for example.

However I do agree that people should see what interests them and form their own opinions. If someone says that something is a "half day park for them" that is their opinion. Explaining why can be useful of course. :goodvibes

Back to the topic, WE don't spend much time at DHS. We like Star Tours, GMR (update please!), the Muppets and Streetmosphere. DS enjoys the ToT but I could do without the falling. :faint:

We also like having lunch at the Sci-Fi occasionally and the Soundstage is OK but aren't thrilled by the other restaurants.

I don't believe that 18 year olds watch the Disney channels either but I don't know who claimed that so I don't know who to disagree with. :rotfl:

She can't comprehend what I wrote. My daughters are now 18 & 17 years old and said the two and there friends watched the Disney Channel for 6 years. I believe both my daughters stopped watching Disney by 16?

I kind of took you at your word here. Whoops.

My daughter and I had a good laugh about this tonight. :rotfl:

I can see what the OP is saying but we do like the more thrilling rides DHS offers. We enjoy ToT, RnRC, TSMM, TGMR, Muppets 3D, Backlot, Star Tours and grabbing a bite at the SciFi diner because it is relaxing and cools us down. We also find it fun to stroll the lot streets / NY/ San Fran as those are places we frequent and we can relate to the scenes. Even American idol was good for a break. And the street actors on Hollywood blvd are so fun - we always take the time to stop and get into that. It could use another ride but we won't stop going. We would never mss it.

I spent almost the entire day at DHS on my last trip and still didn't get to do everything I wanted. And I was traveling solo! AND I don't do roller coasters! If/when they add more Star Wars, DHS will turn into a 2-day park for me. Which only means my vacation will need to be extended by a day, because there's no way I could skip or half-day any of the three remaining parks.

I have no idea what is meant by "teen vibe"? :confused3 Of course, I stood in line to meet Jake and was bummed at how long the line was for Sophia. I'm 42 and I watch the Disney channel. Wouldn't be caught dead watching ABC Family.

I see your point. I can't say we're bored, but it has always been about a 3/4 day park for us because there has always been a chunk that DS couldn't or isn't ready to participate it.

When he was younger, he loved the offerings for the preschool set! H&V breakfast, Playhouse Disney, HISTK playground. Fun! Now he's past all that and into ST, IJ, but not ready for the more advanced offerings (animation class, RNR, etc.). So, it's not boredom that limits us, it's just that not everything fits the bill of appropriateness for his age.

I do disagree on the lunch offerings. Limited, yes, but HBD is one of the best park restaurants IMO - we've had many lunches there where the food and service were wonderful, and the atmosphere is such a nice break from the park chaos. 50's and SciFi are also great - culinary masterpieces...no...but they have the most whimsical atmosphere of about any onsite restaurant and are just plain fun!

PP claimed that "DHS basically is the park that highlights Disney channel which targets preteens and teenagers.'

I begged to differ.

I maintain that regardless of what segment Disney Channel is targeting, no self-respecting teenager is watching that programming.

It's funny because years ago - maybe 2009 - we HAD to go to DHS to see the High School Musical parade. I think my daughter was 7 then (math is not my strong suit), and it was a HUGE deal to her then. She's 12 now, and over the Disney Channel.

I don't think that's the only reason that DHS is not interesting to us now, though. I actually think that many of the attractions are "once and done" attractions. I just don't want to see so many of the shows again, particularly when there are untapped attractions at Epcot and MK for us to explore.

I've heard mixed reviews on SciFi and have to disagree on HBD. I think it's the worst of all the signature restaurants (but again, that's just my personal opinion). Plus, I'm guessing 90%+ don't want a signature meal for lunch, they just want a QS. When it comes to QS, DHS is by far the worst.
