Do you need a Borders member card to use it??

I have a B & Noble card. When I use their coupons they always scan my card first.

I would love to be able to use it!

No member card needed, you just hand the printed coupon to the cashier.

I've actually found if you ask nicely and get the right Associate ("I've got two coupons; could you please hold this other book for me while I go put the first one in the car?") they often will just process the entire transaction in one step.
