New York state recently changed it's car seat law to include booster seats for children 4yrs - 7 yrs. Does Florida have this requirement too? Just wondering if I need to bring my booster seat on the plane.

Yes Florida does have a similar law. If you will be renting a car I would bring your child's seat or rent one from the rental company.

You will not need one on the plane. If you are using a towncar or limo, most of the time they will provide one at no charge. If you are driving or getting a loaner, you will need to bring one. BTW - some car rental places these days have them as well and will offer at no charge for using their service.

Remember, you can not use a booster on the plane, but you can bring it aboard as a piece of your carry-on luggage and store it in the overhead bins or under the seat in front of you.

Florida requires children 4-18 to be buckled, but doesn't require a car seat or booster seat. Children through age 3 need a federally approved safety seat.

The Florida law is woefully inadequate. No four-year-old is safe in an adult seatbelt. Your child is really not safe without a booster until they can pass this 5-step test:

The 5-Step Test.

1. Does the child sit all the way back against the auto seat?
2. Do the child's knees bend comfortably at the edge of the auto seat?
3. Does the belt cross the shoulder between the neck and arm?
4. Is the lap belt as low as possible, touching the thighs?
5. Can the child stay seated like this for the whole trip?

If you answered "no" to any of these questions, your child needs a booster seat to make both the shoulder belt and the lap belt fit right for the best crash protection.

I agree with you completely, tlbwriter!
