I'm not sure where to post this but we are renting a car for one day and trying to decide if we need to bring/rent a booster seat. DD is 6 and is 48 inches tall and about 50 pounds. Is she required to use one in Florida?

Thanks.

Every operator of a motor vehicle as defined in this section, while transporting a child in a motor vehicle operated on the roadways, streets, or highways of this state, shall, if the child is 5 years of age or younger, provide for protection of the child by properly using a crash-tested, federally approved child restraint device. For children aged through 3 years, such restraint device must be a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer’s integrated child seat. For children aged 4 through 5 years, a separate carrier, an integrated child seat, or a seat belt may be used.

Yes. Just look at how the seatbelt comes across her shoulder/chest. My 8yo who is 72lbs and 53+ inches still needs a booster...the seatbelt doesn't naturally come across his chest, still too high/near his neck. Not safe. 4'9" (57") is where a seatbelt starts to fit a child naturally (and is number OH laws use). Not sure about FL.

Most airlines allow you to check carseats/boosters for free...just bring a backless booster and be done with it. Or just rent one.

Does the seatbelt fit her?

We got the 1 pound BubbleBum booster for DS for traveling. It's a great little booster. Popped him up to fit the seatbelt.

And for a period of time he fit the seatbelt in our car at home but not random rental cars so we still brought it.

I say bring it. The law in FL might not require it but her body still might!

The law says no but you alone can tell if she is ok without it My dds are 7yo and this will be the first time that I won't bring their seats. I know many will say that I'm insane but it's a choice that I made. travelling with 4 kids on my own should be interesting and I have to bring 1 car seat for the baby, 3 booster more would be too much for this mama although I already thought of putting them all in a suitcase LOL

BubbleBums are pretty and purple and they can carry them on their own...I'm just sayin'. :)

Thanks for the bubblegum booster idea....I've never heard of it before.
