I tried to take a nap today, but was startled by a really loud crash and screeching tires just outside my house. I got dressed to go see what happened and saw this....

There was a hit-and-run about 20 yards away, and the car that had been plowed into had more or less wrapped itself around a pole. The screeching I heard was the guy who had plowed into the poor guy. He (as many people do) mistook our driveway for an alley since it sits on a major street, so he tried to drive through it so he could make his getaway. After realizing it was a semi-private driveway he got out of the car and ran through our back yard toward the main strip of our neighborhood.....which is where the cops caught him about 5 minutes later. (Seriously....do NOT mess with the cops in my neighborhood. :cool2:)

I'm not sure if either of the two men were involved in anything "mischievous" or not, but the one who was arrested acted as though he was. The guy in the totaled car was barely conscious when they took him on the gurney to the hospital.

My neighborhood is exciting!! :woohoo:

How scary. I truly believe that some day we will have self driving automobiles like the ones promised to us in the old Disney cartoons where the people in the cars are reading the newspapers while the cars automatically get to their destinations. There would be many less accidents that way.

Until then, just gotta wear your seat belts.

Thanks for the photos, MonorailMan. (And for erasing the name of your street on the sign ... LOL) :surfweb:

WOW! So much for naptime! We used to live in an exciting neighborhood as well. It was a dead end. We had TWO signs posted and yet, well people THOUGHT it was a thru street. We had several accidents, just like yours...BOOM and we'd all run out to see some young Marine (we lived right by a base) in our neighbor's ditch. A couple of them were bad. Moral of the story, READ the road signs! ;)

Unfortunately, I think the seatbelt may have been both good and bad for the guy who hit the pole. If he hadn't have been wearing it he might've been able to schooch over to the passenger side before hitting the pole. Maybe....maybe not. :confused3 Needless to say, the poor guy was barely conscious when they pulled him out.

I blurred the street name to protect myself from Rosie. She's been looking for me to try to convert me to nudism. :rolleyes1
