Books for Boys ages 7-9

I seocnd the 39 Clues books. My son, just turned 10, has read the first 2 and I bought him the 3rd for his bday.

The same son, also loves non fiction. On a whim I picked up Who Were The Beatles? He loved it. There are tons of them. Since then he has read, Who was John F Kennedy, Who Was Elvis Presley, Who was King Tut, Who was Leonardo de Vinci, and he is currently reading Who Was Harry Houdini. They are great age appropriate books, full of educaltional info, but the reading is fun. I read along on the Beatles book, and really enjoyed it myself. They even have a Who Was Walt Disney book. The books are by different authors, but they are all the same concept, once you find one you will see the others are written & illustrated the same way.

Most of my 8/10 year old sons' favorites have been mentioned here. The 10 year old especially loves Rick Riordan--he is on Son of Neptune right now.

Older DS also really loves Gordon Korman, and I know most of the kids in his class do as well. Check out the Zoobreak/Framed/Swindle series.

I run the school book fair and The Magic tree house series, Grenimal Stilton(sp?) sell well for the 7 year old group. Wimpy Kid diaries are a big hit for older group.

At home the we have enjoyed:

Carole Marsh has a series of mysteries about real places. (It is nice that a few historical facts are learned in them)

Rick Riordian Percy Jackson series for the 9 year old. He also has a series about the Egyptian Gods.

The how to train your Dragon series(oringal books movie was based on). DD will get the 8th book for Christmas.

If you have a scholastic warehouse around you look for their warehouse sale. Ours is usually in the beginning of December.

I saw the title of this thread and was popping on to recommend the 39 Clues series, but looks like I'll be "thirding" or "fourthing" the recommendation instead. :lmao: My son is loving those right now.

Also, same with the Percy Jackson series and anything anything by Rick Riordan.
My son went through all the Percy books quick (he really connected with Percy since he has ADHD too) and got a kick out of carrying The Red Pyramid around and having people comment on how thick it was (finished in 3 days).

Sounds like both series would work well for BOTH of your kids. :thumbsup2

My sons love books like the Percy Jackson series, Diary of a Wimpy kid, Pokemon graphic novels, Dr Who choose your own adventure, The Hobbit, Ravenquest, Bartimaeus Trilogy (by Jonathon Stroud), and the Spiderwick Chronicles.
