If I were to own two DVC contracts at two different resorts Example: Animal Kingdom and Bay Lake.

Since Animal Kingdom is one of my home resorts could I book 11 months out at Animal Kingdom and also use my Bay Lake points at this time to book a larger room, or do I have to book what I can with my Animal Kingdom points and wait 7mo out to use my Bay Lake points and hope I can up grade?

You have the 11 month advantage only with the points at that particular resort. You would have to wait to use the other points at 7 months.

You are correct. At 11 months, you can use your home resort point for a reservation at your home resort. Once you hit the 7 month mark, you can use your points at any of the properties.

I have a different two resort/account question that I didn't want to start my own thread on. I hope it's OK to horn in a bit here:

If I own two resorts with different UY and accounts, one a resale (BCV, APR UY) and one direct (PVB, JUN UY), and I transfer points from BCV (resale) to PVB (direct), can those transferred points be used to book a cruise (something not possible from a resale account)? I know this isn't the best way to use points. I'm not asking if it's wise; is it possible?

The answer to the OP is home booking advantage applies to the points, not the owner. What about resale restrictions?

disney is able to track it. no, you cannot use resale pts for cruises and other trade-outs.

Nope, won't be able to use the transfer points for cruising or concierge collection. We have 2 UY also. One is all resale - when I transferred in someone else's direct points the CM told me I would not be able to use those points for cruising & etc. Not sure if it's because my account was all resale or something else. I'm also not sure what would have happened if I transferred to my other account with resale and direct points.

But see. In your case, the restriction followed the account and not the points. If that's the case, resale restrictions are attached to the account and not the points, then transferring resale points to a direct account should also align those points with the status of the new account (direct).

Otherwise, if restrictions (and lack thereof) follows the points, then direct points would be good for restrictive booking no matter which account they end up in. As you said, your experience is that this isn't the case.

If you have a direct purchase account, and transferred in resale points, do they warn you that those points can't be used for restricted purposes?

But a single account can contain both direct and resale points, and Disney can tell the difference. I don't believe DVC is sophicated enough to track the origin of transfered points. My guess is, transferred points probably can't be used for cruises regardless of their source.

I think it's both. The points obviously retain their home resort and UY. Therefore it should retain their cruising option. HOWEVER, I think Disney likes to put additional restrictions on resale accounts.

Direct to direct - cruising option
Direct to resale - no cruising option
Resale to resale - no cruising option
resale to direct - no cruising option

Of course the CM that handled my transfer could be mistaken...and maybe I could have cruised with those points if I wanted.

Transferred points can be used for cruising (at least in 2014 they did it). My in laws have done it. It was a Direct to Direct transfer. Neither party had any resale.

I wouldn't use points to cruise as I'm already experienced in renting reservations and that's how I'd go if that were what I wanted to do.

This is more about wanting to understand the rules.

IF you can't use direct points transferred into a resale account AND you can't use resale points transferred into a direct account for restricted purposes, then it would seem like DVD is penalizing both sides of a potential transaction. There's no balance.

I don't get why they would do that. Many timeshares will make resale points whole as part of a direct sale purchase. That is the point of the restriction, after all: to encourage direct sales. I wouldn't think that it's gaming the system to use a direct sale account to make those points whole. Having that direct account in the first place should seem to be the POINT of the system.

Of course, I could see someone buying a 50 point direct contract with a different UY just to make their 500 point resale contract whole via transferring... Even so, at $155 minimum per new points, Disney would make almost $8 grand on such a transaction. I would think they should consider that a win.

And now I must apologize to the OP because I did hijack this thread. I guess I should have started my own.

MS has trouble using transferred points so tracking them is probably beyond their ability.

If you own direct, you are also eligible for member cruises, and can pay cash, using no points...just another side note.

So if I have 50 points at BWV and 250 at BLT, can I book for a 300 point stay at BWV 7 months out? Having a debate with someone at work about this, I say no. Please help clear this up. Thanks!

At 7 months, you may combine the 50 BWV points with the 250 BLT points to make a 300 point reservation at BWV (or any DVC resort) subject to availability, of course. You can't combine before 7 months.

Depending on how your contracts are set up, there may be a some extra steps required to make the reservation, but at 7 months, a point is a point is a point.

HTH - sorry to tell you that you are on the losing side of the debate.

UNLESS, they are different UYs. Then you cannot combine them for a single night and only book separate nights with each. Unless you transfer points from one to the other.

Does this still depend on WHEN you purchased your resale?
We purchased BEFORE the new restrictions (any resale purchases after March 2011 ) went it affect. So this places us under the grandfather rule of using both our resale (2008) & direct (2009) available for cruises plus Disney collections. Well at least for now.

Yes. All your points are good for booking the Disney Collection and Member Cruise.

OK, help out a newbie. Two contracts. Two resorts. I want to book for spring break next year. I am at 11 points. I want to stay at my home resort. I have points from this year in both contracts that I can bank. I do not have enough points in the designated home resort to bank and use next years. If I cannot use my second resort, I would have to bank, use, and borrow. Is there any way to use the points from my second contract at any point any way other than cancelling and rebooking at 7 months if there is availability?
