Hi all, we’re planning a trip December 2026 with family. Our home resort will be BWV. Looking at a 2 bed villa for 10 nights from about 12th December.

We’ll have a 150 point contract so a max 450 available to us. I know BWV resort views are quite a bit less on points than the other category. What I’m not sure about having never booked with dvc is how it works using banked and borrowing points. Does the system just now those points are available and ask if we want to borrow from 2027?

Ideally we’d like resort view but I understand they’re hard to get. I could try and walk a res but again how does the system know if we want to borrow?

Basically I don’t want to end up in a situation where I’m borrowing more 2027 than I need to, so I’m hoping we don’t have to declare ‘I want to borrow 128 points’ when I might not need that many.

Hope this rambling makes sense 😅

Bank your points first, you must bank in the first 8 months of your use year btw. Then, when it’s time to book you’ll have access to the banked & the current use year points to use for the booking, if you still need more points the system will ask if you want to borrow points to complete the booking, you say yes & proceed to complete the reservation.
I’ve never walked, but yes, a BWV 2 br. resort view in Dec. will be challenging to get because all of the 2 br.s are lock offs and the resort view studio portion of the lock offs get gobbled up.
I’d calculate how many points my reservation was going to cost & then not borrow more than that to start my walk. You don’t have to walk all of your nights, plus you can only reserve +7 nights beyond the 11 month booking window & you want a 10 night reservation so just walk those 7 nights forward every 5 or 6 days until you get to 12/12/26 & then add on your last couple of nights on or before 1/18/26.
One warning about walking - you cannot walk over your use year, in your case I think your use year is Oct., so the earliest to be walked reservation you could make would be for stays starting 10/1/26 & later which you could move forward every couple of days in Oct., Nov., & Dec. until you reached 12/12.

The system will give you the option to bank/borrow at the time of booking. It will only let you borrow the number you need to complete the reservation you are trying to book.

You will be limited to just 7 days to start and will have to add the additional three by either adding daily, or waiting a few days to add the rest.

As mentioned, bank your 2025 UY points, into your 2026 UY before you start just to make that part easier...then when you get your 7 night booking, whichever view, it will ask you to borrow from 2027 UY to finish it if the 300 points you already have between the banked/current UY are not enough for the first 7 days.

You don't mention your actual UY so that can make a difference in whether its worth it to even attempt getting a Resort View....but honestly, that is such a popular time that getting 10 nights might be tough, even with walking, and my guess is you'd need to start months in advance to even try.

If it were me (and what I do with RIV) is just plan on PV and not worry too much, unless you are willing to split stay and want to try to use waitlisting and stalking to pick up RV if they show back up.

We’ve got an October UY but sounds like even 2.5 months before won’t be enough if we were to try for resort view? We’ll have enough for the PV anyway and really don’t mind grabbing that, just be nice to save some points if we can 😀

By then people could definitely be walking them for December.

The other thihg is that even with walking, rooms don’t seem to come back because it’s a high DVc demand time.

Never hurts to try!
