Booking two resorts

I read on another post that someone had booked two resorts until they decided which one they wanted. I asked to do that but was told if I made a second resort reservation, that would cancel out the first. Does anyone know for sure if this is right. I called Disney again, and again was told I could not have two reservations for two different resorts on the same dates.

That's correct. You cannot have two reservations at the same time.

So not to be disrespectful, but why would anyone do this? I do understand resort preferences, but when you call for a special offer, why not just commit? If you change your mind you can always call back to see if there is availability, but in the meantime, if you book two rooms, and I imagine there are ways to get arouund the system, you take that opportunity away from another family.

I understand booking and in the event you cannot keep a reservation letting it go, but double booking so you have the luxury of choosing the perfect resort? Not so much.

What you were told was correct. You can't book two reservations with the same dates under the same names. Disney, obviously, knows you will cancel one of them and wants to leave inventory open to sell to other guests.

If you look at other threads, you will see that Disney cancels out double bookings and you may be left with nothing.

If you make it yourself online you can. I had two reservations at different resorts for the exact same dates and same name guests on two different occasions. It all showed correctly on mde and was zero issue to reserve and later cancel one.

I arrived back today from a 8 day stay at CSR. And I couldn't even book a bonceback, as no matter what dates I tried there was either nothing available, or only the most expensive rooms. I wonder how many double booked guests there are.

It is rude, imho, to book more rooms than you plan on using. Take your best guess and book that. But booking more than you need leads to problems for the rest of us. Not very nice.

This person was able to do it because she had one room booked under a third party vendor and one under her own name. So if you use ORBITZ or AAA or a TA for one reservation and do the other yourself that is technically how she accomplished it.

I am not judging right or wrong. Your question was how did she do it and that is how.

There's an entire thread on the theme parks board about someone booking online, because it let them and Disbey cancelled all the reservations.

Definitely wouldn't recommend it since Disney flat out says not to.

This. If you dont know which resort you want, book the one you're likely to be happiest with and if you change your mind, call and see if the other is still available. Or do what I'm doing - if its not available, keep checking back to see if it becomes available later on. Imagine if everyone double booked how fewer rooms there would be for everyone else.
