booking room with AP

We are thinking of getting an AP being we will be going twice next year. When booking the room, do I already have to have an AP ticket or can I purchase it closer to the time of arrival? With the dining experience card, is it only valid for the AP holder to use or can another member of the family use it? Does the ticket bear the AP holders name on it and do you have to show your AP ticket when ordering to get the discount? Any info would be appreciated. We have always booked with a package deal.

If you book by phone, you can call when the AP discount code comes out and apply it to your room. You don't need the AP until you check in. If you want to book online, you will need your AP or voucher to do so.

The DDE is only valid for the person whose name is on it. However, I have never been checked for ID, but with my luck, I would if I were using someone elses.

Yes, your AP has your name on it (I think it does anyway, hmmm I'd have to double check mine, but I am pretty sure). I have never been asked to show my AP when using the DDE, but if you are using it for another discount you will need to show it and usually some ID (like the discount at World of Disney).

Can I book the room under the regular rate and then when the AP rates come out, change it to the AP rate? I usually call Disney direct to book my rooms. I want to make sure I have the rooms, because I need 2 rooms connected.

Yes, you can do this now. You'll just have to hope that an AP discount becomes available for your stay and your resort and make sure you book both rooms under the AP holders name.

Oh and just so you know for the furure you can get up to 3 rooms with the AP discount.
