Booking room now for Dec trip?

Ever since the Disney website went down last weekend, I feel as though prices have gone up quite a bit. My friend and I are planning a vacation the week of December 4th. Since prices are crazy and rooms are going quick, we were going to book a room only reservation through the Disney website now (which looks to be ~$1,500 for a 6 night stay at a moderate resort) and modify the booking when discounts come out. I know the annual discounts have restrictions, so I am wondering what the chances are that we would be able to receive the discount when it comes out later this summer for a reservation booked now? Seeing the prices skyrocket is making us both nervous! We just want to make sure we get the room we would like on property.

It's hard to say whether or not you'll be able to get the discount later. Especially since there's been all sorts of AP problems with the fall discounts the last few days. You can always book at the current rate and change later if you need to apply a discount or change to a room that does have the discount.

Honestly, I would book a room that you can afford without a discount. There are no guarantees that you will be eligible for the discount when they come out.

I agree with @SharonZ. Book what you want but can afford now. There is no guarantee of a later discount nor is there a guarantee that the room you want will be available later if you don't book now.

I would book it now. Trust me, it's better to have the room now and make adjustments later rather than have the room snatched up without the chance to even stay where you want.

That is a very popular time of year and resorts will be booked up.

We are kinda the opposite? We love many of the WDW resorts, and usually wait for a discount to come out first, and then choose from what's available. We have been more than pleased with all of our resorts and would rather save money and be "forced" to try a new experience than to stay in a rack rate room of our choosing. We were (ahem) "forced" to try AKL with a discounted room, someplace we always thought was "too far away" and we didn't (allegedly) care for the African savanna theming, and now it's our favorite resort! We're going back in August. With a discount of course!

We ended up booking POR through Disney's website. Figured we better get the room now before it sells out and HOPEFULLY will be able to apply the discount when it comes out.
